So i finally picked up a M1 carbine today. I have always had my eyes out for one but last time i went to my local gun shop by my base. They did not have any that were in great shape plus they had a M1 Garand that was just dying to get into my hands. Went their today and I turned my eyes to the carbine. Whip out the debit card, filled out paperwork, and now an owner of a USGI M1 Carbine.
Now about the carbine. It is an Inland reciever with the serial #863***. The barrel has the Inland divis General motors stamped their with 10-43 marked. The letters I.R.C.C with a serial #7160*** is located on the right side of the adjustable type rear sights. It has an 8 on the bottom of the stock where your hands go. It also has MM on the barrel band. I got it for 650 and could not be more happier.

The date of the barrel sounds correct for the receiver. The carbine is a definate rebuild. Originally it would have had a narrow barrel band with no bayonet lug and a flip type rear sight rather than the adjustable. And the number on the sight is a part number, not a serial number. Still it sounds like you found a carbine at a decent price. List the parts markings and I can tell you who made them. All major parts will be marked. You may have to search for the markings, because they were not consistant in where a part was marked.
