Commander Paul Tibbets Dies at 92

Was sorry to hear about his. Met him about 8 years ago in a local Wal-Mart and spoke briefly about his mission with him. He was very nice but wanted no notoriety for what he had done.
The sad part is he's being buried in an unmarked grave (by his choice) so no protesters can desecrate it. He also is not having any funeral.

A tip of the hat to him. By all accounts, he was a class act.

Sad to see him go, he was a hero in every sense of the word.

It is very sad to hear about this great heros death. I am not sure if I would have had the grandfather I so proudly looked up to if it wasn't for him. But in all honesty, the sadest thing about this story is that he requested no ceremony because of the possible protests for his actions. This great vetern will not get the final honor he greatly deserves.

BRS, sometimes the greatest honor you can bestow on the memory of a man is simply to leave him in peace.

I don't think he was bitter or unhappy when he requested that; he was simply extending the dignity he handled himself with in life a little farther.

BRS, he simply did not want to give his critics a place to desecrate. He said he just did his job and that was that.
Troy's right-he derves to be left alone if he so chooses. The man did a serious job not many would do.
He wasn't bitter and he had no dislike for anyone. He just simply didn't want his relatives to have to worry about constant calls from the cemetery regarding his plot.
There was a petition started to have him buried at Arlington and I signed it this morning. I figure he deserves at least that much.

Jerry, not a problem. Glad someone else posted it, too!

I completely understand why he requested that. I just wish that he didn't have to request that for fear of people desecrating his grave.

Do you know where I can sign the petition to have him buried at Arlington? I would be more than happy to sign it and I know a bunch of other people that would be right behind me.

BRS, it is a local thing at this time. I'll see if I can't run it down for you.
BTW, give my regards to Aumiller's Gun Store, will you? Haven't been there in a while but used to deal with him a lot!
