Thinking of buying an AES-10

Thinking of purchasing an AES-10, which from my research over the many months I've drooled over it, is a long-barrelled WASR-10 with some slightly better internals than the earlier ones and mid-range 'fit and finish' on the quality; so, somewhere between the worst and best WASR-10's that Century put out.

It's got a 23 1/8" barrel and an RPK-style 'clubfoot' stock. It has a side mount for a scope and accepts double-stack AK magazines, but like the WASR-10, does not have the dimple. It has a bipod attached under the gas tube, but I intend on removing that and the carry handle and replacing the thread-cap with a Tabuk/SVD-style flash suppressor. Then I'll put a side-rail picatinny adaptor on with a decent 10x scope and make it into a 7.62x39 version of the SVD countersniper rifles. I'm also going to ask Ironwood Designs if they can do the Tabuk buttstock for it, as I love the look of it.

I can pick up the rifle with two mags, cleaning kit, cleaning rod, oil bottle, leather sling, manual, one 30rd and one 40rd magazine for $532 after taxes.

Thoughts?

Indeed you did Billy.

I think I'm going to buy it on Wednesday. It's going to turn into a pretty mid-range countersniper EBR.

I won't be able to tell you for certain for another 13.5 hours. It's an auction, but it's in-state, so I'll have to pay tax (around $43), but no shipping ($25) or transfer fee ($15). So, it comes out almost even and I get it a lot faster.

There will be many pics if/when it's in my possession.

Yer hurtin' my feelin's guys....

Out of the many folks that post to the AK forums, only two have replied to this thread, even though I asked for your opinions.

So, a heartfelt thanks to SilentSoul and Billy.

Still looking for opinions on the rifle, even if I've decided on buying it.

I like them OK. I think Century is making a "B" version of the rifle now that has a heavier barrel and the bi-pod is moved up near the muzzle. If you don't win that auction you may want to wait for the other version. Your call. Have fun!

I really want the Yugo RPK - only thing keeping me form having one is lack of funding!

I specifically didn't want the B version... I want this to be as lightweight at possible. I'm going to be removing the bipod and possibly the carry handle. Also, the B version has a barrel that's about an inch shorter and with the thicker barrel, it makes it appear even shorter. I really like the long SVD-type look to it.

Unfortunately, the gentleman that is selling it is out of town until the 17th, so I can't go pick it up until then... I think I'm going to have a heart attack with all the nervous shakes I'm getting from the anticipation.

I think I would keep the carry handle. It just seems pretty handy. I am uber curious as to how well it will shoot. I would assume you have plans to scope it and and change it up alittle. Let us know how it shoots.

It has been "won" on gunbroker... I just have to wait the week for the guy to get back into town so that I can pick it up/pay for it.

I can't wait to hold it, shoot it, and mod it.

I now have it and need to take some pictures before cleaning it up and modding it out.

It's soooo pretty!!!

I'll start a new thread for the pics and whatnot.
