Make sure the front of the scope is not resting on the top of your barrel. I have seen more than one, that had rings that were too low, for the scope to clear, in the front. In particular, on Ruger 10/22s, make sure your rear sight is folded down. If it is "up" & the scope is resting on it, you will shoot down. Also, "eyeball" your scope mounting to be sure your scope tube is not "cocked" by having the clamping rings out of parallel.

I purchased a center point 4-16X40mm AO Adventure scope about 15 months ago from Walmart. It has some nice features for a $70 scope and it has been on these caliber rifles: 257Roberts, 6.5 Swede, 7mm mauser and 30-06. Probably have fired well over two hundred rounds with this scope on a rifle. The scope has taken a couple of hard knocks when the rifle it was on fell over hitting concrete, so it seems to be a tough scope. Never had a problem with it holding zero and I love the turret adjustments on it.

I don't hunt, just try to get to rifle range at least once a week to shoot paper with my rifles. I prefer shooting a scoped rifle with at least a 12 power magnification to clearly see the bullet holes in my targets. I have at least 9 different brands of scopes mounted on 16 rifles, so I'm not loyal to any particular brand. None of my scopes are the so-called high end scopes, like a Leopold or Nikon. My most costly scope was about $140 and the least costly was around $40.

Presently, my centerpoint scope is sitting on a shelf in my gun room for 2 reasons. It seems to me to be my worst scope as far as clarity of its optics. I usually take 3 or 4 rifles to the range when I shoot. Everytime I've compared the clarity of the Centerpoint optics with the other brand scopes I'm using, the Centerpoint loses the comparison. I also have a problem sighting through it. Meaning, I had better really center my eye on the lens or I lose my sight picture through the front lens. Yes, centering your eye in any scope lens is necessary, but my Centerpoint seems more unforgiving than my other scopes in this regard. I've let a few other shooters view through the scope and I can remember a couple of them making negative comments about either its clarity or the centering problem. But to be honest, these guys use Leopolds, Nikons and etc. Because of these reasons, I seldom keep it on a rifle for very long.

I look at it as perfect for Rimfires...from .17 to .22Magnum

At $70, the price is perfect for an inexpensive rimfire rifle...and the features give it good use characteristics for hunting paper or small critters.

So it's not a Zeiss...didn't expect it to be...but it's WAY better than a TASCO.
Beats the heck out of the under $150 BSA's, Simmons, & Bushnell's that Wally World sells.

And that's what I like best about it.

I'm not about to stick a $600 Nikon on a $85 rifle...I just couldn't ever do that.
Heck, I won't even spend $100 to scope a $200 rifle...

On the other hand, I've got no problem sticking a $600 Nikon on a $300 Marlin XL-7/.30-06
There's just some things that call for serious scopes.

Big Shrek, well said. Agree with most of what you wrote and my most costly scope is also on my Marlin XL7 25-06. A Swift 6-18X44mm AO premier.

center point scopes are big with the air gun crowd. They are made to handle the strange recoil or a spring powered pellet gun that will cause a wandering zero or destroy most scopes for some reason.
Yes they are cheap but they are also tough. I find what your paying for in most high end scopes is mostly the eye relief when you turn up the power. Nothing worse then having to plant your scope almost in your eye to see. Especially when your in one of the positions where it is hard to stretch your neck that far. However if you can get a scope that is almost as good for a 10th of the cost then you can normally deal with these minor inconveniences.
I like center point scopes. I have one on my 22lr. It is way better then a bushnell of the same price range. just my 2 cents.

How do you have it mounted up? Pictures?

Often a 2.5X7X32 will do more good and give better accuracy than a 4X16X50 because of the high rings necessary to clear the bell on the 4X16X50.The reason is simple,The higher rings make it much easier to cant the rifle.Don't ever underrate these lower power/lower mount scopes.A canted rifle with a powerful scope is going to be way further off than a level rifle with a low power scope.(or even open sights)High power scopes are great, but only when sightline is level with bore line.(and the bad part is you can be canted one way or the other and never know which way or even that you are.The best thing to go by is the horizontal crosshair, but hat isn't certain. ,,,sam.

I have a 3-9 on my 500 mossberg slug gun and just put a 4-16 on newly built ar-15 with 24 inch stainless bull barrel. Hoping to utilize that 16X on some of these coyotes that are killin all the game here where I live. It worked flawlessly on my 500 for the last two years. I actually have not had the occasion to use the lighted cross hairs. They are really bright on high, but on the lowest setting they might be fine for dawn or dusk shot.

I have a 4-16x40mm adventure class on my .338 win mag and it looks great. No apparent problems with the lens and the lighted reticle is really nice. I would have sighted it in 4 days ago but the only range in my area is closed for the week so as soon as I get it zeroed I'll put it thru the real test, but for $70 there's really nothing to complain about and if i find a problem walmart will give you your money back on anything for almost any reason
