Any woodworkers out there?

Well finally got into the shop again and made a computer desk. Copied a design from a catalog of a ladder style desk and added the shelves to the side and top to house the CPU and printer.

I work with wood, but it's usually on a much smaller scale. Looks like a fine job!

Thumbs up

SA...that's a very nice job you've done there. Seems that the last project I saw of yours was a gun cabinet.

SA...go back to 2002 to find the gun cabinet pics. I made one, too, about that time and we commented about each other's projects then.

I'm not sure this really belongs in a woodworking thread, but what the heck. This is a second-hand, 14-ft diameter by 8-ft tall fiberglass dome I've had laying around for years, and finally got around to bolting together last week. The woodworking/carpentry is in the floor; I framed it out of 2x4's on top of pressure-treated 4x4 skids, and covered it with 3/4" tongue-and-groove OSB flooring.

The tricky part was building the floor 1 1/2" inches larger all the way around than what I calculated the dome would come out as. Then I cut 2x4's into three-ft chunks, and band-sawed nominal 2x2 arcs (1 1/2"x1 1/2", really) out of each one to go around the dome after it was in place. I screwed the three-foot arcs around the outside edge of the floor, then screwed the dome to the inside of the 2x2 ring about every eight inches, and caulked the living daylights out of everything. The pic's don't show that; it was getting dark by the time I finished.

I'm not sure I'm what people think of as a "woodworker," but I'm an ex-carpenter and cabinet maker, amateur boat builder, and former contractor. So I not only have a handy skill set; I also have lots of power toys and sharp pointy objects to use when I get the urge to make sawdust and wood shavings...

Pretty interesting; how did you acquire that?

Hey do you have a picture of the table display you made for your friend? Would love to see it.
