Your a good man Trapfreek. Yup, were human and make mistakes, yup, your probably going to be a little cash light. Does it mean your morally wrong? No, it means the system is tough on people who try to follow the law, have slight lapses in judgement, albeit with good intentions. If you need someone to stand up in court for you in January, give me two weeks notice and I'll drive there from Illinois, seriously.

Thanks for the offer Jerry, I truly appreciate it. The thing that really ticks me off is that I have always been straight up when it come to hunting, and have lost hunting buddies who are not as ethical, and never get caught. I expect I'll have to pay a pretty good fine and I know it is because of people who are like that. Oh well what comes around goes around I'll get it back some how, maybe next year I'll harvest a monster buck.

Trapfreek, since you had a tag for the deer, and had full intention of putting it on the deer, the judge might take it easy on you. It's not like you were caught in transit with the deer in the back and the tag in your pocket. Hell, even the conservation officer let you keep the deer and your rifle, so even he didn't think it was such a serious offense.

Thats a bunch of crap?????

Here in Montana, we are required to put the tag on immediatly. What is so difficult about that? Is there a legitamate reason to not tag it right away?
Poaching is a big problem here. Hunt by the rules and it will be better for all.

In Arkansas immediately upon killing the Deer you have to tag it period.
So I guess it's that way in a lot of states.
My Step Father did the same thing Saturday...He shot a 10 point then drug it to the logging road while I went to get a little trailor I pull behind my 4 wheeler to put Deer in.
He still hadn't tagged it, we load in the trailor and drive down to a creek to have water available for when he guts it and I say you need to get the tag on the Deer before we do anything else and he says when we get back up to his truck he will.
I thought about this Thread.
After loading it in his truck he tagged it.
Fortunitly we rarely see a Game Warden.
They'll even give you ticket for not haveing an Ink Pen on your person here.

The only thing I had on my mind was catching my son-in-law before he left for the morning. there was no way I could have dragged the deer up that nasty hill without help.

I would tell the judge just that. It is clear that the officer didnt think u were really trying to beat the system, or like the others have said, he wouldve taken ur stuff. Sorry for u though! hope all goes well and maybe cry a little too. lol

Exactly...
Tagged , and they mean it. I Hope they dont fine you and unless your judge or the warden puts a hell of a spin on it I cant see you getting a large fined or jail time BUT first thing I wondered myself is why you didnt tag it right away. When speed limit sign says 75 they dont mean 85.
I think you should feel greatful or atleast lucky he wasnt harsher, I know a couple pr**k wardens that wouldnt have been near so kind.

Well I finally went to court on this issue and had to pay 316 dollars for court costs and for them to withold prosecution. So if I keep my nose clean for a year I wont be prosecuted for my haneous crime. They even sent me to a program called " Thinking for a change" sort of a group therapy crap. The lady that runs it talked to me for two minutes and let me go and told me I did not have to come back or pay for the class. At least someone had some common sense.
