Iver Johnson problem

The extractor on my Iver Johnson carbine keeps working loose. If I cycle one or two rounds through the gun the extractor starts moving up and eventually the ejector pops out. I just put a new extractor spring plunger in and am not sure which way the notch should face and whether this could be the problem.

Anyone had similar problem?

By your punctuation, not sure if you replaced the extractor. Most likely a piece that the plunger nestles into is broken off on your extractor. The extractor pin (I am using the term 'pin' rather than 'plunger') has a flat spot that rests against a flat on the extractor itself; preventing the extractor from moving to the left, thus out of the bolt. As you can see from the photo, the only way this extractor is going to come out is to depress that pin in deep enough to allow the extactor flat to pass over the pin point.

bcbris,
It sounds to me that you may have a broken or weak extractor pin spring. I have recently completed a thorough cleaning on the bolts of 2 of my carbines. Powder residue and 'gunk' built up in the spring coils as well and can cause problems. If your local gunsmith doesn't have a replacement spring contact Fulton Armory Home Page for parts. The extractor spring with plunger is $4.95...do it before the end of November and the shipping is free.
M14man has a good point. If the extractor is broken where he indicates, the plunger has nothing to lock into. Extractors can be gotten at the above sight as well.
Let us know the outcome.
