Accuracy improvement using strap

I have a shoulder strap for my M44 and i was wondering just how much of an improvement wrapping it around your wrist then shooting actually is? is it a major improvement or just a minor one

Yes it is a major factor in accuracy mainly from the standing position. Even in the kneeling and sitting it helps a lot. Depending on your skill level even a good rifleman should expect 20%-80% better groups in the standing position when used with your natural point of aim.

well im fairly new to shooting. and have only been able to put about 10 or so rounds through my M44. we were to entertained by my SKS. Note to others: If you bring a bolt action rifle and an SKS to shoot for the first time, the SKS is gonna get most of the attention. Haha

That's funny, last time I went out my Mosin M-38 got more attention than my AR, mainly due to the crushing blast that comes out of the barrel each time I fire it. There were some youngsters there that couldn't wait to try it out. It was fun to look over and see them look oer at me with this look as if to say "what the hell was that cannon" As far as the sling, I would agree with pantherA4...it helps keep your arm steady what standing and on a knee....I prefer using a homemade rest to shoot. Have fun with it!

Remember tho, excessive pressure will affect point of impact and inconsistent pressure will affect group size due to the barrel flex.

i shot with the bayonet out. and i think it might have gotten more attention if it wasnt for the fact that i have no stripper flips for the M44 and its either shoot 1 at a time or take the time to load 5 then shoot. Where as i have 25 stripper clips for the SKS and we had about 8 loaded before we started shooting

My dad taught me to use a "hasty sling" for shooting whenever possible, whether I was shooting offhand, kneeling or sitting. I grew up thinking that's how everyone shot.

Stick your elbow through, wrap your wrist back around the sling, grab the fore end and apply just enough pressure to steady your shots. If you wrap too tight and put unnecessary pressure on the sling, it'll affect your barrel's harmonics and send the bullet Lord knows where...

Agree with Troy. Takes some getting used to, but does wonders for off-hand shooting!
