Keeping ammo in bag.

I have about 60 or so rounds of ammo for my Mosin-Nagant just sitting around in various boxes. Would it be safe to just throw it all into one big plastic bag?

Keeping the ammo in a plastic bag would work but eventually the plastic bag will deteriorate.

It's safe and the ammo should not deteriorate (except for normal case corrosion, if at all) due to humidity as long as the ammo is not subjected to lying in water.

However, I am an advocate that orgnization equals some degree of safety when it comes to firearms and ammo. Consequently, I'd suggest getting your hands on some surplus ammo cans or ammo cases/crates produced and designed for dry storage of ammo.

this is gonna sound funny but i had some ammo in the same bag 5.56 /7.62 well i went to shoot my ak and i took my ammo bag out and started loading a clip lucky me that i caught it but i put a few 5.56 rounds in my 7.62 mag it's kinda hard to do to but hey i did it. i don't know what would have happened if i would have had the mag in the gun??? maybe it would have shoved that 5.56 round way into the chamber i don't know but ever sinse i keep all my ammo seperate.they way i caught my self doing it was when i got to the end of the mag and i was putting the last few rounds in the bullet just wouldn't stay in no matter what i did so i looked at it and it was a 5.56 round thats when i took all the rounds out and noticed the first 3 or 4 rounds was mixed 5.56 and 7.62

wow. that would've been bad. yeah luckily the only ammo i have is my 7.62x39mm, 7.62x54mmR, 6.5mm Carcano, and a few rounds of Winchester .32 Special. Thankfully all of them are different lengths/bullet tips. also i would never consider mixing different calibers. I was only gonna put rounds of the same caliber in the bags

You can pick up ammo cans at nearly any gun show and many gun shops who deal in mil surp ammo will have them.

As far as the heavy plastic cans you might be able to find them online on in some local shop.

I bought two of the large very heavy plastic "cans" from Sportsmans Warehouse many moon ago. They were well worth the money I spent.

BYW....don't mix calibers in storage. Pain in the butt keeping track of the differences unless stored separately.

I like the heavy-duty plastic "Sportsman's Dry Boxes" available at Wal-Mart and from the various catalogs. About the size of a 'fat fifty' ammocan, but lighter.
I keep the ammo in the proper boxes in the big ammo box. Loose ammo is an invitation to disaster!
Had a buddy once put a .270 Win through his Garand. Made a funny noise and shot lousy . . .

There were some guys at the range shooting an m44 and I was looking at the ammo they were using and realized it was .308, I told them that they were using the wrong caliber and they looked at their ammo and the guy said "damn you're right". anyways I gave them some of my 54r ammo to shoot.

btw I keep my ammo in a 50 caliber can in sub boxes for the individual calibers and I only take the ammo for the guns I bring. I also keep the ammo I don't take in an 30 caliber ammo can.

Surely you meant to say that you saw their error BEFORE they attempted to fire the rimless .308 in a rimmed case firearm of a larger chamber dimension.

LOL

Plastic is not good

Plastic bags hold in existing air promoting
mold/spore growth. Not good for long term
room temperatue storage.
