Dear fellow gun owners, I would like some feedback on the Hi-Point 9mm carbine 995. I want gun for close quarters &, home protection. The look of the gun and the composite stock is not a problem for me I love Glocks.
Love hi-point, but I'm sure most would agree that a shotgun would be best for home protection...just the sound of it cocking is enough. You can always find them on auctionarms.com. My rec would be a mossberg 500 9 shot, with the pistol grip stock, i've seen them go for less than $200 all decked out....sure it can be a lot of drywall repair, but it'll do the job very well.
They are cool little carbines to play with - just not sure about betting my life on one. One thing to think about is they only hold 10 rounds, but I guess if you need more you are SOL anyway. If you have not held one, the plastic in a different material than the Glocks. It just seems more plastic like than Glocks. ATI is making a cool stock for them now.
The 9mm has failed in combat and in military trials so many times I wonder why people buy it.
Get a real caliber such as a .45 for a light weapon.
Considering someone home invading may have drugs or alcohol (or both) in their system I suggest a 20 gauge slug gun. Recoil is manageable, cycling time with a pump shotgun is fast, and knockdown power is certain.

I respect your opinion nathangdad, but must disagree with your conclusion on the 9 mils. I have seen what a 9mm hydra shock can do to a solid object thru both my carbine and my pistol. It is devastating when placed in a home defense situation. I have both 9 mil and .45 pistols and like them both, don't want to be hit by either one. In a combat/military situation I just soon have a M-16.

Will buy another carbine when the time comes. No issues. Fun, reliable and cheap to shoot. Have heard a few disparaging words about the pistols. But having not used one, I will reserve judgment on them.

I got a used 995 with the buttstock pad and 2 xtra mags...got all the attachments also...(comp, laser, weaver mount)
Haven't fired it yet though (should of took it to the range yesterday when I shot my High Standard VICTOR and my Hi-Point C9 pistol)
I now have a Truglo 40mm Red dot for it along with a barrel shroud because I'm taking the front sight off when I put the ATI stock on it (which my wife got me but I can't open it until Christmas )
Paid $150 otd....
