Exclamation Family preparedness and personal safty...

What would you do if you were atacked by thugs. What would you do if you had to defend your self. What would you do if some one came into your home with an ak. And held you hostage. What about a federal gun grab?

If my home was invaded by burgler/thug(s), I would go for my gun first thing. You stand a better chance making a stand than standing there frozen!!!

Hey, thanks Andrew...

My wife and I have been learning about and "doing" family preparedness.

In a nut shell, we've been trying to prepare ourselves for a variety of potentials: natural disaster, personal and home security and safety, sustainment in the event of unemployment, etc...

This not only covers how you would protect yourself and family from a home invasion, but how you would feed and clothe and provide for yourself and family in the event of some type of disaster.

We've been searching the web, reading books, participating in preparedness events, and talking with others to gather ideas and learn ways to be better prepared personally and as a family.

Ours isn't a spin off from Homeland Security efforts. We've been doing this a lot longer than that. In fact, my family and others I know, have been doing personal and family preparedness for generations.

Are there others out there doing the same?

If so, what guidance have you found and what efforts are you undertaking to be more prepared?

Great Gunny...hopefully you've got the best location and shortest time to it nailed down.

Now, when you get there and you're being ready for what's going to happen, how are you prepared for and handling the rest?

If I were to wait I would aim toward the doorway where there is no other entrance so he's as good as gone, most likely the 44 revolver.....BLAM!!!

What if you couldn't leave your home for a few days, or even a week or so? Are you in a position to sustain yourself and family?

What if you were away from your home and while you're gone something happened to it, so you weren't able to go back in for awhile? What is your backup plan?

While this may sound unrealistic, or pessimistic, look at the hardship some are experiencing in California when their homes were burned, or others in the south when the floods came.

Look at the millions of people who are in foreclosure on their home loans.

How are we being prepared to handle such a situation, and others that may and will come along?

Guns and bullets serve their purpose in certain situations...how about the rest?

Great...fixing that "sooner or later" is the kind of stuff we could talk about in this forum...stuff that is just as critical, if not more so, than having a good gun, plenty of bullets, knowing about and using safety, and getting to it quickly.

I try to have enough food to last a month. It might not be tasty buy you'll survive.
But if a natural disaster happens. You may not have clean water. So it might pay to stock on bottles of water.

And also here's something to think about what if your atacked by thugs from two sides. Blasting lead into your house. If it were me I would go to my basement. Take a 9 millameter semi automatic pistol and a 12 guage shotgun. And defend my self. ( I currently live alone)

Yes, we have been storing food and water as well, even a way to purify water when our storage is gone....

How much do you store, of food and water...?

What do you store and how do you store it?

For a quick fix, for three days of emergency preparedness, we also have MREs on hand. Easy to prepare and plenty of calories to sustain us.

We also store things that can sustain us for longer times...in other areas and needs.

Good, you've got the very basics... Hopefully you've stored up some BBQ chips in case I stop by?

Info I've read says we need a gallon of water per day for basic needs.

So, you're set for six days, except that chips and crackers cause you to be more thirsty because of the salt in them.

How about first aid, light, warmth, communication and backup power?

Yeah, BBQ and Chedder and Sour&Cream. Alchahol, flashlight, cell phone(trac phone), no power backup is why I got stuff that doesn't need cooked, it will be cold bath's for a while.

Hey Gunny, you're more prepared than you probably thought. Good to hear.

The more prepared we are the more confident we can be and the better we will be able to properly handle crisis...

I have about 8 gallons of water, and assorted dry goods. Like rasins, crackers, chips, and beef jerky. I bought a small generator several years back, but i sold it last year. Maybe it would be a good idea to get a new one.
