| Senior Member | OK, so I am just about the proudest lil' sis in the world right now! My older sis is career military... Air Force for almost 18 years now. She is also an EMT2A (which means EMT, level 2 w/ an advanced specialty). While she served in Iraq last year as a contracting specialist, she also volunteered regularly at a free clinic for the Iraqi nationals. She also had a "livejournal" page called "The Diary of the Deployed Mama" (she's a mom of 5 great kids), which was featured on Good Morning America in January of '07. Because of all her volunteer work while in Iraq, she was nominated by her commander for a special honor reserved for those soldiers who's service went above and beyond the call of duty. Well...she was chosen! This week she is at Langley AFB, with four other outstanding soldiers to do a briefing to the "big wigs" there and accept her award. I don't know how familiar you all are w/ the military "hierarchy", but Langley is basically equivalent to a civilian company's "Regional Headquarters" so this is a huge honor. She was one of five chosen for this honor out of 15 Air Force Bases in our nation! I am so proud of her and wanted to share my joy with others! ![]() BTW, if you would like to read her blog while she was in Iraq I've included the link below. Some of the entries are just heartbreaking, but it gives you an idea of what life is like for our men and women serving in Iraq. It also gives you a glimpse of what she did over there to deserve this honor she just received. Diary of the Deployed Mama Oh, and the Diary of the Deployed Mama will be up and running again soon. She returns to Iraq next year. |

| Super Moderator ![]() ![]() | You've got to be proud of your sister for all she's been through both at home and abroad. As I read the narration I kept wondering who cared for the kids while mom was on duty. Surely someone is doing a great job with them trying to meet all the needs of kids with a huge variety of needs.

Thanks to all, for your kind words! It's great to see her get this recognition. She's worked so hard and never expected, or desired, any "glory" for it. Oh, and Jerry, the "HOA" was well accepted and much appreciated! Thanks! | |

| Senior Member | Khahn, you have every reason to be proud of your sister. What an amazing woman/mother/wife/soldier. I have nothing but respect for the men and women who volunteer to serve our nation at this time, knowing that they stand a good chance of stepping into a war...and volunteering anyway. My best to your sis and a heartfelt thanks to all of those who stand and serve. |

| Senior Member | Wow! So I just looked up DANA's profile and saw that he is a USAF Ret. Lt/Col! Wow, what an amazing honor! Can't wait to pass that one along to my sis. To all the men and women on this forum who have served, thank you! Thank you for your service, your sacrifices, and our freedom! God bless. I just got off the phone w/ my sis. I read her all the responses from you all. She is very appreciative and honored! Thanks everyone!

| Senior Member | A very sincere salute from an old vet. It can not be expressed how important her job is. When a warrior falls in combat, he must look to others for his well being and his very life (in some cases). There are jobs just, or more important, than being a fighting man. I don't know if she has ever taken a life, but I would bet she has saves numerous in her carrier. I can't think of a more noble job to have. WELL DONE SOLDIER!!! Snuffy
