And FWIW people, I got a notice today, telling me when mine would come, actually I already got it, so this notice was late, but it was worth while as I read in it that I DO NOT have to claim it on my 2008's tax return. Think no one has to, I'd check though?

Nope, I don't get one. I didn't make enough money and I'm a Student that gets FAFSA, so I don't qualify.

It took me forever, but I finally figured out a name for her: Melania (Melany for short).

Also, neither of those items fit right out of the box.

The gas tube was too long on the front by about 1/8", too tall on the back-bottom by about 1/16" and they tell you in the instructions to file-to-fit the slanted section that the locking mechanism rubs against at the back-top.

The tri-rail would have fit just fine if Century hadn't welded on that ring to attach the carry-handle. So, I had to inlet the aluminum to get it to fit.

I then sprayed both with high-temp matte-black paint and baked it in the oven.

I'm going to be working on a Tabuk Sniper buttstock for this in my spare time, since Ironwood Designs says they can't make one for a stamped model (only the milled Yugo)... which doesn't make any sense to me. One would think they could just use the skeletonizing jig on the regular stamped stock, but they stated in an email that it would leave the wood too weak. Again... I don't see it.

It used to have a bipod that you can see in the other pics in that folder, but it was just long pieces of metal.

What I want is a 4-9" variable length, spring-loaded Harris-type bipod with large rubber bottoms that I can attach to the picatinny rail (similar to this, but attachable to a rail: MidwayUSA - Harris S-BR Bipod Sling Swivel Stud Mount 6" to 9" Black) so that I can shoot from a prone position. The original bipod was about 2-3 times too long for prone shooting.

Also, you can see in that last picture (that I just got to upload a minute ago, bad connection) that my sling mount is now unusable due to the tri-rail, so I have to get a rail-mounted sling mount... OR, what I thought I might try is to use the carry handle mount as a sling-ring mount. It's a little too wide, as is, but I think I'll just put a thick keyring ring onto it and it should be good-to-go! Plus, having the mounting point on the opposite side of the receiver will allow it to hang evenly, since the scope makes the firearm very top-heavy.

A large keyring would work pretty well for that...btw, would you be trying for a somewhat PSG-1ish look? I know it's a good bit different, but also kinda similar.

Again, reading my mind...

I at first wanted a Druganov SVD as they're just so darn sexy, then moved to the PSG-1 (bought a CETME), and then moved to the Tabuk Sniper.

I'm melding this into a modern Tabuk Sniper with homage to the other two firearms. Essentially, starting with the dead-nuts reliability of the AK and building up a Squad Designated Marksman rifle that's "he's dead" accurate out to 400 yards.

It'll be unique, that's for sure!

Cool project and very nice rifle you have there, in fact you've inspired me to do something similar. A friend of mine has an AES 10B that he wants to sell me. the top of the bipod looks like somebody took an angle grinder to it and there are a couple other defects he has issues with.

After seeing your thread here I'm thinking of turning it into a heavy barreled rifle and moving away from the SAW concept it was originally designed for.

I'll probably keep the furniture as is, ok I'll have to stain it, and install a scope and flash hider. It won't be nearly as cool as yours but at least it won't hurt my eyes to look at it.

Thanks for sharing your project and for giving me the idea for mine.

That buttpad is the one that was on my 1943 Izzy m91/30, Bethany. Just a Small Limbsaver slip-on pad. I really needed it for getting the buttstock closer to long enough for my frame... it needs to be about 3 inches longer than it is.

The flash hider is made by Nodak Spud, which I mentioned on page two. It comes "in the white" and I used Lauer's manganese parkerizing solution to 'park' it. The grip and palm shelf are both separate items made by CAA (Command Arms Accessories) and can be seen here:

They do also have an AR version. Please also note that the palm shelf doesn't positively snap into the bottom of the grip; it's kind of loose, but I think I'll be able to fix that by threading a screw in from the bottom to tighten up the engagement.

NOTE: I was initially under the impression the above grip was US-made, but it is not. It says "Made in Israel" right on the grip. Fortunately, I'm still okay on US-made parts for 922(r).

You didn't miss the range report, sorry... I actually forgot to add one after going out last year around mid-June.

Last summer I went to a friend's "2008 Summer Shootout" and got to take Melania out to 432 yards (checked with laser rangefinder). From a sitting position, off-hand, I was able to get a 3-4 foot spread on iron sights while aiming at a 4'x4' white piece of something on the side of a hill. I set the rear leaf to 400 meters and it seemed to be doing okay, but was consistently hitting slightly high-right. Just a little tweaking needed. I'm sure with a bench rest and using a sighted-in optic, I could do much, much better. Though, if you're at 400+ yards and someone's kicking up dust around you in a 3-4 foot area... I think you'd want to find cover.
