I buy all the bulk ammo I can find in Alaska. I bought a lot at Sharpshooters in Palmer, he closed Oct.31 ,...broke my heart. Last deal was 1100 rnds .308 for 225.00 , and sealed cans of 7.62 X 54R for 40.00 a can... I buy some from Gunrunners, and some from the place where Gunrunners used to be on Dimond ave. that is now another Gun Dealer. I order 30/06 from CMP. A pain to deal with Fed EX, as they wont deliver to Glennallen. You being in Anchorage can get ammo dealers in the Lower 48 to ups Truck drop ship to the Freight Forwarders in Kent,WA. or Seattle, and have it put on a Barge into Anchorage, and prices that way aren't too bad, as long as the container doesn't fall off the Barge on the way up...Also, you can join the Alaska Machine Gun Club, and get in on their ammo buys, you pay for the ammo, and when it comes in, they split the shipping up between everybody that ordered.

I just saw on our local weather (in North Carolina) that it was -35°F somewhere in Alaska. Is that anywhere near where you guys are located? I realise Alaska is larger than Texas and covers many miles from north to south.

Nick-I am sure it's -35 somewhere, but not here in Anchortown. Mooseman is closer to that than us.

Actually Moose, maybe what I ought to do is start buying good brass! THEN, put some $ down on a case of good milsurp to stash away? What say you?

That sounds like a good plan...Several cases is better.I get nervous if I dont have at least 2000 rounds of ammo for each gun !
I also have 4 reloading presses and lots of powder and bullets, just because, if ammo is unavailable, your gun is just a club !!!

Club it is! I wonder if anyone is cheaper for brass, or if they'll be about the same?

Steve, Graf & Sons - Welcome is the only source that I know of for affordable brass in '54R. I bought 100 rds a couple of years ago for (I think) $24.95. Now it's around $30, but still the best deal around. Lapua and Norma sell virgin brass but it is outrageous pricewise. You can also buy Wolf Gold, Prvi Partizan, or S&B loaded ammo and save the brass. I buy a lot of ammo from Cabela's Official Website - Quality Hunting, Fishing, Camping and Outdoor Gear at competitive prices. , but usually in person, never tried mail-order. BTW, check out Discount Hunting Gear, Discount Hunting Boots, Discount Shoes, Discount Ammunition, Discount Ammo, Discount Boots, Military Surplus, Outdoor Gear At the Sportsman's Guide also , sometimes they have good deals.

Toolman,
Our problem in Alaska is getting Live ammo shipped up here. Most ammo dealers ship UPS ground...Which we don't have. Live ammo has to be shipped to a Freight Forwarder in Kent or Seattle ,Washington, then Loaded on a Barge and shipped to Anchorage, for pickup at the Docks. We can get Unprimed Brass shipped via Mail.
It's gettin Harder and more expensive to get ammo up here. Due to 9/11, I can't even get a Brand new engine shipped up here by air...had to find a willing Trucker to bring it thru Canada for me...New Regs Suck !!!

Well, if I can get a run up there after the doc releases me, I'll bring anything you guys need (if possible). I used to have a pretty good relationship with the Canadian customs guys, but I've never crossed into Alaska. We do have loads that go up there, maybe I can come see ya,

What the Moose said! I guess everyone forgets we're still the U.S.! But I still LOVE it here. The only way to get a decent deal would be to buy LOTS of it!

Toolman,
You'll have to hide in the front of a load if its ammo, they put a limit of 200 Rounds coming up here...
