While looking through a Cabela's catalog I noticed a device marketed by
Sims Vibration Laboratory the
LimbSaver folks.
This thing I was looking at in the catalog was a Barrel De-Resonator that you slide onto your rifle barrel.
So I made a few telephone calls and found out real quick all but one store had sold out of these gizmo's so I go buy one and the directions say oil your barrel before you put it on, and that I did or it wouldn't have gone on.
I put it on my Ruger Hawkeye and plan on going out tomarrow and see if I can make my new rifle even more accurate
I invishion nothing but bullet hole accuratcy with this rubber arrow head looking thing. LOL.
Now has anyone out there bought one of these things ?
Does it work or have I been suckered ?
I really would like to know.
A.H
Let us know AH. I'd rather have a bit larger group than look at that atrocious thing on one of my guns, looks like a guy in a suit with a pacifier in his mouth.
Jerry it's not that big but you definitly would stand out at the Deer camp LOL.
Hey you'd have something they didn't have. Maybe.
I went by my Step Fathers house and showed it to him and he said it looked like the head of D_ _K on the end of your barrel ROFL
i dont think i'd every hang one on a rifle of mine, but anything that touches your rifles barrel can affect it . good, bad , or indifferent. on a centerfire rifle, i believe your better off finding a load that works well, or reloading one that the rifle likes. for a tuneable version, brownings boss is anadjustable brake/tuner, or take a look at the rimfire benchrest world and see some of the tuners they use
The German Mauser rifle was desegned with a stepped barrel to stop the resonance in rapid fire,it was tested against the Springfield rifle by the military and out shot the Springfield every time, there are many ways to stop bbl. resonance.

Thanks billy....Your suppose to slide the thing up and down the barrel until you find the sweet spot Hummmm I hope it don't go off when I do that !!!! LMAO
If this thing works or not I'll give a report. ...A.H
It was either VH magazine or PSM that recently had an article on barrel weights and finding that "sweet spot". The article said you could find it by "pinging" it with a steel rod and finding the spot that rang instead of clunking. Or maybe it was the other way around.
Thanks Lizard I'll be sure to ping and clank it.
At this point I feel like I may have wasted my money, but if it works as it says it will then hey hey.
I'm a sucker for gizmo's I've even bought those magnets that Harbour Freight sells that go on your fuel line of your auto to improve gas mileage. LOL !
Do they work you say ??? I don't know I havent yet figgered what kind of gas mileage I was getting before I put them on. ...A.H
P.S. I thank I'll try a set of magnets on the barrel of my new rifle too.
The magnetic field is suppose to break up hydrocarbon clusters as it pass through the magnetic field so maybe it will enhance cleaner powder burning.
Hmmmm maybe I'm not so dumb after all. I love that big eyed little bugger !!!
It reminds me of me when I was a kid ! , when I got into somthin I wasnt suppose to...A.H
This device has hardly any weight to it being it's some kind of rubber compound.
I will try to shoot later this afternoon if I can finish the list of things my wife has for me to do.

Many years back, in the N.R.A. publication, Mauser vs. Springfield.
Both rifles anchord to concrete pillers,in rapid fire, first shot of both rifles in the black,
therafter only the Mauser hit center, due to bbl. resonance.

Mooseman do you take Debit cards ???...A.H

Heres a couple testamonials about the De-Resonator.
Dear Sims,
I am a long time rifle shooter and have served as a SWAT scoped rifle operator in the past, and have always been very serious about my marksmanship with scoped rifles. I have hunted exclusively for the past 3 years with a Thompson Center Arms Encore in several different calibers. All of my barrels will shoot right at one inch groups at 100 yards with the right recipes, and even with factory loads most will shoot under an inch and a half.
I read about the De-Resonator and was skeptical though I understood the concept of how it "might" work. Well, I finally got my hands on one and slipped it onto a 24" factory tapered Encore barrel in .223 caliber and headed to the range. I was shooting Winchester (white box) 55 grain FMJ's that can be bought for next to nothing and are great for plinking. The distance was 100 yards and it was breezy and about 93 degrees this day. Not great for shooting tiny groups, but I had to try it out. My first group flew into 3/16's of an inch! Yep, you read it right 3/16's of an inch. Luck, coincidence? Well let's see. I fired another 3 shot group after a 5 minute cool down for the barrel and this group went into 5/8's of an inch! Once can be luck, but twice? Another 5 minutes of cooling the barrel and my last 3 shot group again flew into 5/8's of an inch! That is an average group size of .479's! Sub MOA guns are hard to come by and usually take special handloads to perform like this. This barrel would shoot under an inch before the De-Resonator and I have even fired some groups in the .5 inch range but never 3 back to back groups like this! I currently have the De-Resonator on a .270 barrel and can't wait to get back to the range to see what it will do on it. I can't guarantee you the same results I got, but for less than $20 I don't see how you can afford NOT to give one a try?
Dear Sims,
This is what my initial test with the Bull Barrel De-Resonator did:
Rifle: Savage Model 12, Short Action 22-250 26-inch stainless fluted barrel Action was trued by Fred Moreno of Sharp Shooter Supply
Stock: Sharp Shooter SVT
Ammunition: Winchester (USA) 45 Grain Varmint load.
Scope: Meopta 4/12-50
First of all the scope was new to the rifle. So it took 4 groups of 3 shots to zero the scope. Barrel was then warm.
I made the first-base shots without the De-Resonator (see #1) which gave me an approximate ¾-inch group. This is what the rifle normally shoots.
The second group of shots was with the De-Resonator placed at one inch from the forearm, resulting in a one-inch group.
The third group was with the De-Resonator placed at 2-¼ inches from the forearm, resulting in a Mickey Mouse group, all rounds touching.
The fourth group was with the De-Resonator placed at 3 inches from the forearm, resulting in a one-inch group.
The fifth group was with the De-Resonator placed at 3 inches from the forearm, resulting in a half-inch group.
The sixth group was with the De-Resonator placed at 4 inches from the forearm, resulting in a one-inch group.
The seventh group was with the De-Resonator placed at 5-1/8 inches from the forearm, resulting in a Mickey Mouse group.
The eighth group was with the De-Resonator placed at 6 inches from the forearm, resulting in a 5/8ths-inch group.
The ninth group was with the De-Resonator placed at 5 inches from the forearm, resulting in a one-inch group.
At this point I felt that the barrel was too hot and it was getting late, so I went home and cleaned the rifle.
Bottom Line: This rifle has never delivered two groups of Mickey Mouses in 24 rounds fired using inexpensive NON-MATCH ammunition.

Well lets look at those testimonials...cause somethin dont add up...The first guy shoots 100 yards and gets a group SMALLER than the bullet diameter in breezy conditions, with Non-Match ammo...I think he hit with one bullet, the rest were off the paper...
The second guy gives no yardage of his shots...and I find it hard to believe that a Bull Barrel would have much resonance to begin with, thats why you go with bull barrels to begin with...
Who are these testimonials from ?
Are they documented by several witnesses and photso?
Call me Skeptical...any body else ???
