Ultra CDPII Range Report

I finally got to take my new Ultra CDP to the range. It feels great and shoots smoothly.

However, there were quite a few FTF issues - even with FMJ round ball. I had read that Kimber's were bad about doing that until "broken-in", but I didn't expect that many! I shot about 200 rounds and toward the end it was noticeably better.

I am a little worried about the accuracy also. While I am no marksman with a handgun, my H&K USP .45acp shot circles around the Kimber. Hopefulle the Kimber will improve with a little more breaking-in? Or maybe it needs some "tuning".

I guess I'm a little disappointed. I just expect something that expensive and coming from the "Custom Shop" to already nbe fully tuned and ready to go.

The original factory mag was the culprit for the FTF problems.

I took the mag back and got another Kimber and it feeds flawlessly. BUt I also got a couple Wilson Combat mags that I like even better!

The accuracy is less an issue after a few sessions. It does have a short sight plane, since it has only a 3" barrel. It is very accurate - much better than I am.

The Kimber mags tend to be junk. I have three Kimbers and that is the first thing I replace. My CDP is as accurate as my full size Tactical. Put more rounds through it and you will find that your groups will shrink.

I have the same pistol and have never had a problem with the mags or accuracy. I love this little pistol.

HOWEVER, I wish I could say the same about my Kimber ProCarry in .38 Super. Very accurate, but one FTE followed by a FTF 12 times in 25 shots. I discovered a very small piece of broken metal behind the extractor, removed it and I think that was my problem.

Could have shaved off a cartridge. I had the same thing happen to a Ruger 93 DC many years ago.

My CDP11 Ultra is very accurate also. I got Wilson Mags for mine and they are great. The only thing I'm not fond of is the 2 piece spring rod arrangement, but it's starting to grow on me.

The guide rod assembly is a bit of a pain to remove but once used to it it is like everything else. I truely love my Kimbers.
