I just bought two SKSs at an auction (Russian and Romanian). I have three Chinese (Norinco) SKSs. One I bought new, the other two were given to me by a liberal because he thought they were illegal (even after I thought they weren't). Anyway my question is if I put a synthetic stock on two of the chinese (their stocks are in bad shape) do I need to have U.S. made parts in them. If they answer is yes, how many parts?
Actually, I had two questions. Are the parts interchangeable between Russian, Chinese, and Romanian SKSs? I know the Yugos may be different.

So far as I know, the parts should be interchangeable between all the ones you have except the Yugo. As far as the stock goes, I'm not sure. Buy a stock made in America and if you need to, a gas piston and extension rod. I didn't bother with any extra parts(mainly because when I got mine I wasn't aware of that law) and I just bought a new receiver plus a new rear sight.
Go and check the sticky at the top of the thread list dealing with SKS legalities. The Moderator includes a list of available US-made SKS replacement parts in the 1989 Executive Order discussion that can help "naturalize" your SKS rifles. If you incorporate 10 of them into your piece, it counts as a US-made gun and the authorities won't be able to give you a hard time.
If memory serves, replacing the stock and the handguard with aftermarket stocks and handguards that you can get from outfits like Cheaper Than Dirt are two of the "naturalizing" parts. Tapco makes several parts of the gas system in the USA; other people make bolts, bolt carriers and trigger assembly components; and you can build whole fixed magazines from US-made parts (which gets you 3 parts toward the naturalization count).
These days, what with the Clinton Gun Ban having sunset off the books (and good riddance!) I don't think where your SKS parts came from is much of an issue in most places. But if it will give you peace of mind, you can replace the parts the Moderator says you can get here that are American-made.

You can put any stock on you want and NO Further Parts or Mods are required...Section 922 does NOT apply to repairing existing weapons that are already approved for sale and sold in the U.S. as A working Firearm...
Some parts will interchange, but don't change or swap bolts between them...
