Rugar 10/22 after market parts?

I just got new rugar 10/22 carbine rifle. I have been told there are so many after market parts for the ruger 10/22 that you could actually make a complete rifle using only after market parts. I am very happy with my 10/22 so far but I would like to add a few things. I have had shotguns for years so rifles are still new for me. I would like to add a scope to my rifle but im unsure as to what kind I should get. What would be better a 3-9 scope or a fixed 4x scope? I would also like to add a flashlight and maybe a bayonet. I know a bayonet wouldnt be very effective but it looks cool lol. Does anyone know one know where I can find the parts im looking for and have some imput as to what power scope I should buy?

you dont need a bayonet or a flashlight hanging on a rifle.

If you are going to do anything I wouldn't put a flashlight or bayonet on it it would look dumb only military weapons can have bayonets and look cool. Put like a big fluted target barrel on it after that scope if you want it to look cool

Check out rimfirecentral.com. It's all 10/22. Check out the Mueller AVP scope. Forget the bayonet and light unless you want to do a tac build like a krinker. Both these are built on the 10/22 receiver/trigger group, all other parts are aftermarket.

Thanks WW, it's a Fajen laminate, I did a bit of shaping, changed the recoil pad, mostly to get a longer lop. Then about a dozen coats of tung oil. My first attempt at finishing a stock, I'm happy with it.

I would go for a nice bipod rather than the bayonet. Or you could do both. A laser sight would be a good addition. You could by a universal clamp on, or buy a rail that you can screw into your stock where ever you want it. With the rails you could also add a flashlight. About the scope, I have a cheap $30 3-9x32 that works sufficiently for my ruger 10/22. I can pop birds at a good 30-40 yards, so I'm happy. I put it on the factory weaver rail, but you can buy an aftermarket picatinny rail that they say will allow you to also use your iron sights. You might look into that. Also if you're going all out, you might as well stick a vertical foregrip somewhere in there. I made my own with my wood lathe and attached it with a screw through the top of the stock. No matter what you do, it's your gun and it's VERY modable. Have fun!

Check out rimfirecentral. You'll find everything you could want there. I don't know about the bayonet though. But you'll find just about everything else. I've already spent 450 bucks completly changing a 10/22 thanks to RFC. Luckily the rifle was given to me. I could have had a nice CZ452 in .22LR for that. Oh well, it's fun!

I've to a 10/22. I put a 4x32 scope barska scope on it and it works great. I have not done any upgrades to mine but I would say get a stock with some kind of thumbhole, and get a bull barrel, I've seen some highly modified 10/22's and they look great, there are plenty of website devoted to the 10/22 and accessories. Heres an example of what you can do. The things that were replaced were the stock, barrel, charging handle, trigger, trigger assembly, and mag release.

I guess I'm too old fashioned but Flashlights and Bayonets aren't made for .22's. It's a bit over the top to say the least. I understand that a young man who is thinking of enlisting in the service has visions of being gung ho but come on now unless your planning on having hand to hand with a squirrel I don't think a bayonet is called for. you will get plenty of training and experience once Uncle Sam gets hold of you.

My way of thinking is that a 10/22 is a fine small arm but not meant as an imitation combat weapon. it's your rifle but please remember that it isn't more then a rimfire.

I tend to go for a more classic form.

Cool looking rifle there NY Marksman. Very classy.

Hand to hand with squirrels? Many of us here on gunandgame think squirrels are evil and are biding their time to attack.

huh?

ok...so you got the new 10/22...but do you really want to spend $1,000 fixing it up?
I tell most people to start with 3 things...a buffer, an auto bolt release plate and a hammer.

the buffer quiets the rifle and removed vibration/shock from the scope to keep it on target.

the release plate makes it so when you lock the bolt open...instead of fighting with the rifle to get it to release...you simply pull the bolt back and let go...and it will slam shut.

the hammer will reduce the factory 7-9 pound trigger pull down to 2 1/2 pounds or so...which will make a bigger difference in accuracy than anything else you can do.. (My yellowjacket/Volquartsen kits will do all this for only $50 at cheapgunparts.com)

after that...you can spend whatever you want fine tuning it, making it pretty...etc. I always tell people this because I know a LOT of people don't have a LOT of money to blow on a little ole .22lr
Some other dealers will try and sell you everything under the sun.

While there is a LOT of good info on rimfirecentral...it is also controlled by a few advertisers who will try and sell you everything under the sun (some of it junk). so beware.

You can also stop by at gunsandfun.com and get some help without all the stress.....

have fun!
-Bob

Can anyone tell me how to and if it hard to remove the front sight on a 10/22? I want to get a barrel shroud for mine and will need to remove the front sight to put it on the rifle.
