i was wondering if anyone knew where i might be able to get a scope mount for this carbine? it has the holes driled and tapped in the side of the receiver and plastic cap to cover and protect the threads. if someone knows where i might find the specs for the mount i have a friend that works at a machine shop. thanks for any info.
The Universal had a 2 piece mount. The first attaches below the stockline. The second piece than is attached to it via two large screws. This allows the upper to be removed if desired. You have the specs to the CTC of the base holes, but making a good mount will not be easy since they are grooved and mated to prevent slide. Here are 2 pics from my archives. OR1994, Try one of these outfits. The first two would be the best bet but maybe the other two can give you an idea where to look. All have reasonable prices and good service, I've used them all.
I have a Universal Arms 30 Cal. carbine,that belonged to my mother.I have been trying to find scope mounts and rings for this rifle.Had a weaver scope and mounts on it that my dad installed,when shell is ejected it hits the scope.Can not keep scope sighted in.Found Weaver set (545020B) wondering if this going to be same problem
What kind of comments have you received from those that purchased this scope mount? The one that I have has the mount on top as this one does and eject shells hit the scope
Putting a scope on an M1 Carbine is like trying to polish a turd.
Would you quantify that statement?
No different than scoping any other long arm or pistol.
People scope M1 Garands, Mosins, Ariskas, 03's, Mausers, and other milsurp; so what makes the carbine any different?

TF doesn't like carbines and seems to feel that anything done to improve accuracy is a waste of effort. He also doesn't give any consideration to those of us who may have less than youthful eyesight!

Theres a scout type mount for the M1 carbine. Replaces the upper handguard. You have to use a forward mounted scope but thats really better for the carbine. Check with the maker of the mount to be sure it will fit the Universal as it it a bit different from the military carbine.

Yeah, I'm trying to put off scoping my guns armed with peep sights but I think I'm losing the battle...it's amazing how the 300 yard line gets farther away the older one gets.

I like my 9 power scope on my Universal carbine....it allows me to see my misses....

Now I want to put a scope on my carbine conversion.

The misses are really contingent on how it nestled in the stock after last cleaning. I can get 2" groups at 50 yds if it's in right, to 6" groups if it is not. The 9X really allows me to see the shots, and if it's plinking and not trying for groups, really is nice.
I don't think it's at all fair to describe the M1 Carbine as a "turd." It's a nice weapon, well made, extremely well balanced, functional and reliable. My old man handloads really accurate .30 Carbine rounds, and he can shoot really close groups with them... (I've still got nowhere near his marksmanship skills... drives me crazy). Even a "crude" weapon like an SKS or Mosin-Nagant can be really accurate if you use good ammo. I think it's fine to put a scope on an M1 Carbine, if it suits what you're planning to do with it. I'm still young, but I have not-so-great eyesight... so I understand what you old timers are talkin about
