I hate shooting paper targets.

I'm so tired of going to a range and only being allowed to shoot paper targets. It's so boring, and they don't do anything when you hit them. I want to shoot things like cans filled with water, fruits, vegetables and old electronics, stuff like that. But I doubt I'll find a range near Indy that will allow that.

The only time that I shot cans and bottles filled with water was when I was invited to a friend of my mothers property, It was great fun but it was only a once and a long while thing.

Of course theirs always skeet and trap, but it's just not the same as shooting stuff far away with a rifle. Fun, but not the same.

I feel for you...Knowing how fun it is to shoot bottles and such, I can't imagine life without them...

My Sportsmans club you can shoot just about what you want as long as you clean up after yourself...I always take orange clays...bowling pins....coffee cans....even took my old computer there last summer and sent it to computer hell...

we go and shoot all kinds of stuff. Just about anything from computers to fire extigushers. We are going to go and shoot a game cube and a ps2 one of these days, I'll post pictures. The wife makes us pick up all the peices of the stuff though. she is probably as bad as a ranger manager that way

DON'T KILL A GOOD PS2!!!!! If it's dead, yeah. Blow it sky high! Old bulky computer monitors are great to shoot as well because there's a vacuum in them and they go POP when you shoot them! Only problem with them is you have glass to clean up afterwards.

Zephri if you would like a little challenge if you find another place to shoot then may I suggest you fetch you a 4' or so 2 X 4 board a bag of cheap golf ball T's and a bag of glass marbles or spent golf balls will do.
Drill holes for the T's in the widest side of the 2 X 4 to stick T's up in and space them apart every 2''.5''
By now you've figgered out what I'm posting here.
Put at a distance you want and put the marbles or golf balls on the T's and blast away at them.
It will be the perfect target and it's fun smoking marbles...A.H

Thats a great idea A.H. I'm gonna see if I can do that at my range!

Clays as Joe suggest. Charcoal briquets are fun. Reactive steel is fun too, Ie. dualing post. Games are cool, like Billy's favorite, Black Death.

That golf ball idea is really cool...something else you could do is buy a couple decks of cards and you and a buddy can see who can shoot the best hand.

Have you thought about joining the Army or Marines? After you are trained the military will provide you with ample opportunity to shoot at live targets. And to make things interesting they will shoot back at you. Are those boring paper targets still sounding so boring?

Maybe they'll let you use metal spinner targets at that range...no clean-up involved and the targets are reactive.

yep
i sure like the BLACK DEATH.
that is really hard to do.
i like to just throw a handful of golfballs out at random and chase em with bullets.
when you hit one the next shot is about 100 feet farther.
those things roll!

apples ,potatos things like that are good because the critters clean em up!

My range banned shooting fun stuff I think in the eighties. There's a ton of rocks right at the surface of the ground and the say when people shoot at stuff on the ground the bullets bounce and go too far.
I have to go to my parents cabin, but that's three hours away, and only has about fifty yards cleared out. I shot a small propane tank, no explosion like I was hoping for, just a big stinky cloud.

Once I get sighted in with a load on paper, I switch over to portable steel gongs. They give a quick study of what my personal max range is with the particular firearm in hand. The ringing noise is cool, and I just keep backing up till I can no longer make 3 consecutive hits in what ever shoot position. Size of the gong varies with the caliber/chambering and and size of the intended game that particular firearm's intended use. I ususally make gongs 1/2 of the animals kill zone. I feel this leaves me a comfortable margin of error.

I shot a swollen can of tuna once---- that's all, just once with a .45 caliber muzzleloading rifle by C.V.A 50 yds. Just once that's all it took I will remember that stench until my dying day!

I'm already looking for another range to shoot at and wouldn't mind joining a gun club. so far the gun clubs near me are already off my choice list.

AH that golf ball idea sounds like a whole lot of fun, I will definitely give that a try later in life.
