auugghh primers!

i have about 50 already primed .308 cases that need to be sized.
can i take the decapping pin out of my new die and size them.
or should i soak the cases in oil and forget about it.?

maybe i should just put them in a rifle and fire them.
i want that lake city brass!

I would put them in a rifle and fire them. If you soak them in oil you will have to wash and dry then tumble them to get the oil out.

Simple equation:

Cost of 1 primer < Cost of 1 .308 case

E.g., shoot the primer, deprime, size, and prime with new.

That is, if you can't remove the deprimer from the sizing die and just size it.

But there's no sense in wasting good brass.

Billy I would say yes. remove the decapping pin and resize. If for some unknown reason it were to go off you would have plenty of steel around it.

the safest bet would be to pre pop them as dogman2 [where is dogman and dogman1] mentioned. Perhaps you could go out with the Vets on Memorial day and do a salute to Vets.

Your skin tone looks bad this week Billy.
=====responding to later post=========

Either deprime and resize in one operation or remove the deprime rod and resize.

Quite simple.

You can raise the pin or if it is RCBS take it out and resize. One other rhing,if they start hanging on the expander turn the case mouth down and press it into the lube pad. this will lube the neck. sam.

Or just deprime them as you would fired cases. It is safe to deprime live primers. I've done it enough times to know. Slow and careful and you will not have a problem. Just be sure to keep those live primers off the floor.

Back when you could buy brass on eBay, I bought some 8x57 brass that was already sized and primed but it wouldn't chamber in my 24-47. I resized them all last week just like Moose and Sam said with no problems.

I have deprimed cases with live primers no problem, just wear safety glasses and take it slow.

decapping live primers

it can be done..... do it slow, use goggles, wear gloves if you really want to be safe..... dont say i told you to do it..... you should be able to resize them by taking out the decapping pin though.... that would be the safest procedure to use and the one i would recomment..... ive read all the posts so far and they all seem pretty right on..... just be slow and careful.....
