| Armed. Polite...when will idiots learn? cbs4.com - S. Fla. Road Rage Leads To Murder Two morons slam on their brakes while in a pickup, apparently annoyed at being tailgated. Idiots get out of car, one has a knife. Idiots beat on car behind them and hurl racial epithets. Driver of rear car fears for life, shoots idiots. Younger idiot dies in hospital, older idiot charged with murder. Did I mention that the older idiot had his 15 year old daughter in the pickup while he did this? Broward County Sheriff's Office seems to think this is a good shooting. Although I'm not inclined to agree that this is a hate crime per se, I see no reason to argue with their assessment. And this is why you don't start trouble...you never know who's got their CCW. The shooter even called 911 immediately afterwards. Now there's a conscientious, armed citizen. Like I said in some other threads, I like finding these stories in the news. The tone of the story seems favourable towards the shooter, which is a pleasant surprise. They even have a quote from a BSO officer backing this guy's actions up all the way. - Coeloptera |

| I have no idea, as with anyone else, what is going on with today's youth. Some will blame the lack of parental or school or church guidance while others will argue the courts are too leniant and won't allow control of kids. While even more will argue that today's kids have a "You owe me attitude." and that drugs are even more rampant than thirty years ago. I will argue that the people 30 and younger have, for the most part, "I know it all and you can't tell me nothing" attitude. You see it all over the internet...even in forums..."kids" that have all the answers and ZIP, NADA, ZILCH, NONE in the way of life experiences to back up their talk. I, unfortunately, was real close to the evolution as it happened. I have no suggestions as to the reason why this generation is going down in history as one of the most violent eras ever recorded. I read the other day that it's estimated that 62-68% of the US populationis 25 and under. Now I know why I hate roughly 65% of the US population.

| My husband had been out turkey hunting and had his blind in the back of his truck and was driving home. The blind accidentally blew out and landed in the road. He stopped to get it and some people who were following (pretty far back) had to drive around it. They stopped, both got out of their car and headed toward my husband's truck, cussing him out and saying they were going to kick his stupid ass. He's dressed in full camo. He ended up having to pull his shotgun on them to get them to leave. He wasn't expecting this and of course his gun was unloaded and shells weren't within reach when all of this happened so quickly. People in this world are crazy. |

| People are crazy..it's a "me" world, and all the brats seem to know all the answers. A little more coporal punishment by the parents seems to be in order. A little adjustment is in order. ![]() |

Funny how many folks here presumed it was kids, though. The idiots were 49 and 28. Age doesn't necessarily imbue wisdom, does it? I think the lesson here is, to quote the vernacular: "Don't start none, won't be none." - Coeloptera

| The story sounds very, very similar to the experience I had coming home from work a few years ago when the guy was holding a knife and trying to punch out my car window to get at me. I pulled my gun but didn't shoot. If he'd continued to try breaking my window I may have. But he didn't, so he left with his life and I was stuck with cops asking me why I hadn't shot him.

| Coleoptera, that was a good read. And thank you for sticking to facts, instead of going off on how horrible young people are, when one of the criminals was 49. |

| About 10 years back I was living in Las Vegas, NV. One late night I was driving (straight) through an intersection (Boulder Hwy and Flamingo) and immediately after the intersection was the entrance to a 7-11. Coming off of Boulder Hwy turning right onto Flamingo is where that entrance is. (Stay with me here). As I tried to make the legal right hand turn into the 7-11 some college kids (tourists) were making that turn off of Boulder Hwy and ended up having to slow down for me doing my right hand turn. They immediately turned into the next entrance and drove back toward me in the parking lot. Three rather large football player looking guys got out of their F350 truck and came at me yelling and cussing at me. There were three college girls still in the truck so I'm sure the show was for them. They appeared to be drunk. They were much bigger than me and much younger than me (I was around 38 at the time) and there were three of them to just me. I knew I was about to get a royal ass beating if not killed. In Vegas that is very common. So, I did the only thing I could think of... I walked toward them like a mad dog. I had my right hand in my winter coat fumbling with my car keys cause I was really nervous and frightened. But I put on my best "Poker" face and walked toward them like I was going to kick there asses. I acted angry and yelled at them that I was an off duty metro police officer and if it was trouble that they wanted, it was going to be trouble that they would get. Then I told them that after I was done with them that they would be spending the rest of their vacation in a Las Vegas jail. Oddly, it worked. All three of them froze in their tracks and one says to me that he was sorry and he could tell I had a gun in my pocket (my keys I was fumbling with) and he didn't want to get shot. He apologized for the group and started to back up toward the truck. So being fired up I told them to get back in their truck and move along! Plus, I just had to say it, "...AND DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!" LOL They drove off and I was shaking really bad. It was a bluff but after that I was thinking that I really needed to have a gun for next time something like that happened again. Took me 10 more years till I finally bought that gun. Now I just have to get my CCW permit. |

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | It's amazing sometimes how you can back people down just by being willing, isn't it? Been a few times I was sure I was dead or gonna hurt bad, so I decided to go out in style and meet 'em head on, and they backed off. It probably helps that when I'm convinced I'm done for, I usually start laughing at the sheer stupidity of it all. Folks probably figure if someone my size is that happy about tackling them, I either know something they don't or I'm just plain crazy... I got launched off the freeway and down a hill at 70 mph once when I was in my twenties and my front wheel hit the asphalt curb, and I was laughing until I hit the ground because it was so ridiculous. I was thinking, "man, how am I gonna show...killed by an effing Honda!" So it isn't like it's a planned thing; I just have a weird sense of humor. By the way, that happened at midnight on a rainy winter night, and it took me until daylight to crawl back up the hill so someone could find me. I guarantee you I wasn't laughing by the time I made it back to the freeway.

This world is getting pathetic when this kind of stuff happens. I had someone hold a knife out their car window at me as they passed me when I went slow over some railroad tracks. I had just got my car realigned, that's why I went slow. Scared the heck out of me.

| Bluffs work a lot of the time, but I always figure the next one won't. It seems that folks with chit for brains were born that way and never seem to loose it,in other words age doesn't mean anything. Of course most older folks have had their reality check a time or two and realize they are not made of steel and use a bit of common sense before popping off to impress folks. A hospital is not a good place to be,and you're friends probably won't be too impressed with you any way. ![]()

| When I returned from Iraq I was put in Med Hold for injuries to my back and neck. I had to wait another month before I was able to go to the house. I rented a car and as soon as I was released threw in my bags, still wearing my uniform. I stopped at a rest area halfway home when two twentyish guys start walking towards me yelling about "Bush lied" and "no blood for oil" crap. They were very aggesive and looked like they were trying to impress a girl who was with them. I asked them if they had a gun and they looked at me like I was crazy saying "Of course not!" Thats when I pulled and extended my ASP baton and started moving towards them. They took off like their pants were on fire, a few minutes later a different twentyish couple came over to ask if I wanted to call the police and thanked me for serving. That made me feel better, but once I got home I never go unarmed. |

The answer? "Not always; sometimes I fight for free." The idiot got his guitar taken away and broken over his head, for starters.

| When I am being unecessarily tailgated, I will quickly and repeatedly lightly tap my brakes to flash my brake lights at them. If they don't get the point, I might do a brake check on them. 30mph down a PACKED highway during rushour...tailgating isn't going to get you ANYWHERE ANY FASTER than if you back off a car length or 2. I wouldn't, however, jump out of my car and attack the idiot. I typically try to avoid that, I'll speed up, cutting through traffic and get away from them if I can. If not, I'll just slow down to the point they change lanes because I am going so slow. Now, keep in mind, I only use the left lane for passing. I'm not one of those idiots that sit in the left lane with 1/4 mile of cars behind me wanting me to get the hell out of the way and 2 miles of open road in front of me. This typically happens, though, during congested, rush hour traffic in which tailgating is UNCALLED FOR, in my opinion.
