Thumbs up Logan, a 12 y.o. Houston boy on youtube.com

A remarkable phone call from a 12-yr old boy to Houston radio station KSBJ FM 89.3. So profound, the station has it posted on their website. Click the link above to listen to it. It's short.

I do not...for one instant...believe this wasn't staged.

Not. For. An. Instant.

No 12 year old I have ever even heard of talks like that without coaching.

Sheesh. It's just a calf. I thought kids who grew up on ranches were made of sterner stuff. My friends who did were.

Yeah, feeling cynical today.

Did you ever have to put down a newborn calf when you were twelve? I killed hundreds of rabbits, snakes, coyotes, and other predators\pests when I was that age. when I had to put down an elderly neighbors' old dog, I cried like a baby and begged God to forgive me. I was too young to realize that I'd done the dog a favor, despite my mom trying to explain it to me. Give the kid a break and have a heart.

When you are closely attached to an animal, it's almost like telling the doctor to pull the plug on a close family memeber. Don't kid yerself. It is NOT easy.

First off, no I don't think it was staged. I am sorry for those that think it was. I also had to put down a pet once. Princess got doggy cancer and we couldn't afford the vet. at that time. I took her out and gently put her down. I cried all the way home in the truck. I didn't want my wife & son to see me cry. I was, I think, forty-four at the time. I know what he was talking about. I think he is a brave young man and he is right, by the way!

Well, I'm not questioning the emotions involved in putting an animal down. It was never easy to put down a dog or to say goodbye to a friend I'd had since I could remember (Timmy was a good Doberman, still my favourite after all these years).

I'm questioning his quotes. His weird "here's what God told me" and comparing Jesus to a dead cow...that's just odd in a way that doesn't seem natural to me at all. Besides...isn't that (and I'm being serious here) technically blasphemous to make that sort of analogy? To compare Christ's sacrifice (keep in mind I'm an atheist, but I'm going on doctrine, which I do know) to an animal having an accident? I know it's a kid and all...that's why I said "technically".

Maybe I'm just less sympathetic towards food animals and herbivores. My friend who grew up on a ranch in Bishop, CA once told me there's no lamb tastier than one you've raised since it was born, clover fed, massaged, exercised, and killed yourself. He was a kid then, too, and frankly, it made me hungry just hearing about it.
