i went to look at the gun store today but they done sold just about all the .270's but they did have a nice 700sps7mmmag . how is the kick on that thing?it came with a scope too for the price of 368.00 .
Sounds like a good deal to me. The kick is not much more than the .270. You may notice the difference, but I started hunting with one when I was around 14 or 15. You can handle it! Chuck Hawks has a good recoil table at Rifle Recoil Table . Even if you have issues, you could get the managed recoil ammo. Easier to go down in power than up. You can't load a .270 to compete with the 7 mag. Just a thought.

well i never shot a .270 i was looking for a .270 but they was sold out i got intersestedin a .270 when i posted a thread about a remington710 .270 for 360.00 or around that price . but the more i looked into the bullet the more i liked it so i went looking for a gun to fit it.i wanted a 700sps in the .270 but now all they have is the other chambers. man problems huh!! i should have just bough another ak47 it was sitting on the shelf right next to me the whole time.lol
They are both great calibers and you wouldn't be dissapointed in either one. The one thing the 7 mag has going for it is bullet selection. If you look at what is availble in bullet weight you can find anything from 100 on up to 175. The .270 I have found three or four bullet weights. That is what turned me onto the 7mm caliber versus the .270win.
That's my opinion anyways

Tommy,
It is a Magnum and will have more Kick than a 270, but thats because it will outshoot a 270, Flatter Trajectory....Great long range Deer, Elk, hog, bear,Sheep and wolf gun !

I think you would be happy with the 7 mag. The .270 is an OK round, but the 7 mag gives you more options. I have been using a 300 win mag lately - not real sure why. It is way overkill for around our part of the world. The .300 has noticeably more kick than the 7 mag. If you have shot a 30/06 - a 7 mag will feel about the same. But, it will shoot a little flatter. I still have and use my 7 mag.
with neck problems i think the 7mmmag would be out then if it kicks like a 30/06 i never shot one but i heard they kick pretty hard. most of my younger hunting days was with a shotgun and my deer rifle was a marlin 30/30 thats the highest i went on the totum pole. my guns i have now are ak47's and ar15 and 12 guage shotgun.22rifle and .9mm carbine and pistol.
Tommy, with a good recoil pad and wood stock the 7mm mag is manageable. I've owned .270, 30-06, 7mm, and .300's. I would put it between a 30-06 and a .300 for recoil out of the box. Just make sure it's not a tupperware ultra-lightweight stock and you should be fine, with a good recoil pad (such as limbsaver). Like Mooseman said, it's a great round and very versatile. What do you plan on using it for? I've shot deer and elk with 7mm mag, and it did a fine job on both.

When they come for my guns, I'll give 'em the bullets first!
my plans for it ar basicly nuthin.lol i'll probably sight it in and thats it . like all my other guns i really can't shoot them they are main;y for show but i do want something that if i wanted to i could shoot.i have been wanting to set myself up a nice sniper type rifle to go with my other(black guns) but i want my son to be able to deer hunt with it too being he is getting into huntin this year . so i want him hunting with something good (no exscuses as to why he missed the deer)
went take another look at it and it's not a 700 it's a 770 but the guy at the gun store said with my neck problems that this gun wouldn't be a wise choice for me to get. he said nice gun but wrong caliber. he recomended a .243 or around that caliber but they didn't have any in stock.
