My girlfriend is moving out of her house and into mine...
We are looking for a house cleaner for her house.
No shampooing of carpets. No window washing. No painting.
All we want is sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, clean the tub, clean the oven and clean the fridge.
Most people that have responded to our ad want $200 for 8 hours of work for one person... That just seems like too much to me. We provide the cleaning materials. I could do that in 8 hours myself but don't have the time. I'm not going to pay someone $25 an hour for something that is pure labor. It's not digging a ditch or stacking firewood or doing taxes or programming a computer. It's vacuuming for goodness sake!
Guess I'll have to find some illegal that is willing to actually work for a buck.
Oh how to respond... $25 an hour to clean is not out of the question. If your thinking you can find someone to come in and clean your filth for under $10 an hour your sadly mistaken. Clean it yourself and quit complaining. I know you don't work 12 hour days 7 days a week. If you did, money wouldn't be a problem.
You don't want to do the dirty work yourself, but you're unwilling to pay someone else a decent amount to do it for you. So you go running for an illegal.
They'll do it cheap because they aren't worried about little things like income tax, unemployment, worker's comp, disability, bonds, business licenses, or even auto insurance for the clunker they'll use to bring the vacuum cleaner.
Check out what it actually costs a cleaning company to provide someone to vacuum your girlfriend's place. If they're legit, that twenty five bucks an hour they want to charge you will only leave them a modest profit.
I love it. The thread title is "What is wrong with people these days?"...... I am gonna go with LAZINESS!!! Lol! Clean your own dang mess! Seriously though, your 2 choices here seem to be either clean it yourself or pony up the money that a cleaning professional asks. YIKES!

My wife hires a lady we've know for many years to do limited house cleaning for about four hours every other week and she only asks $50 (cash) per session.
That includes vacuuming carpets upstairs and down, mopping and waxing linoleum floors upstairs and down, dusting, polishing cabinets and table tops, cleaning three bathrooms, and carrying out trash.
Now...she's a fast worker, usually keeps her phone hooked to her ear, and works amazingly fast, and is maticuluous with what she does.
Come to think of it...maybe we should give her a raise for Christmas.
LOL If your girl friend is not able to clean up her on place you might ought to quit milking that cow and find another.
In case you want to get married someday she's proven she not a good house keeper
so you might should find another chick.
What I would do is ask some friends (if your not ashamed of the condition of the house) to recomend someone.
Or do it yourselves...I clean house all the time matter of fact I just vaccumed the carpet not 30 minutes ago and I also washed a load of towels and there drying as we type.

We don't have the time to do the cleaning ourselves but honestly it's not a major mess. I was just saying that most other labor trades don't charge that much.

This is by far the funniest comment I have ever seen on this site.
Why I understand you don't want to pay $25 an hour...some will say have kids...but I think the kids are more expensive.
Making a house call is a very personal thing...if you pay cheap...will they get their payment other ways? (stealing from you)
If you want look around a college campus...I know tons of females (haven't run into any males doing it) who offer cleaning services for a little cash and very cheap especially around Christmas time.
G Dawg I would like to say I'm sorry if I offended you, I just couldn't resist haveing a little fun at your expence.
I'm sorry feller and if I lived near by I would clean her house up for free.
I do help my wife and it's pretty easy for a man to do.
I like the results from keeping a house cleaned up. I even do windows LOL

I really can't see it taking more than 4 hours to clean at a very slow and thorough pace. That's why $200 seemed very steep. Most of the house is hard wood floors. The real work is in cleaning the fridge, one tub and the oven. And those aren't bad at all. Now, if it were my house we were talking about, a $500 bid would not surprise me! lol! And actually, when I moved out of my four bedroom rental house last spring, it took me and my girlfriend six hours to clean the place. And it was bad! Mostly the kitchen.
The lady that we are hiring (linked to above) is only charging us $15 an hour, two hour minimum.
Since the last mechanic job I had only paid $19\hr. and I had to go through constant training and certification to retain that pay scale, I'd fuss about $25\hr. to clean house as well. Last I heard, the housekeepers at nearly every hotel in the country were only making minimum wage or barely over.
YOU COULD BE LIKE MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, WHEN HER HOUSE GETS DIRTY SHE MOVES TO ANOTHER ONE.I SWARE SHES MOVED 10 TIMES IN THE PAST 8 YEARS.
A friend of mine had a realtor for a mother. She'd buy some house cheap in a good neighborhood, move in and start remodeling. Ripping out walls to make more open space was her big thing.
As soon as she was done with a house (which usually took a couple of years) she'd sell it, and go start again on another one. So my friend spent his whole childhood in one ripped-up house after another...
