Stevens 20 guage 311a needs stock

I have a Stevens 20 gauge 311a Type one that belonged to my grandmother. The stock is missing and I would like to replace the stock and the forend. Where can and should I get them?

It looks like I should be able to install and refinish myself. Any advice? I also want to install a padded butt plate (gun is for my 14 year old son) any advice?

Does any one have an idea of how old it is. There is a GX and a c in a circle on the forend?

I also need to clean up the mechanisims. Everything works but dirty and stiff. Advice on what to use an not use?

Savage, Fox, Springfield & Stevens*&!@#%|*&!@#%311A*&!@#%|*&!@#%e-GunParts.com

Casey Birchwood refinish kits are easy to use and the finish comes out nice if yiu spend a little time on it.

Use a good brand solvent and gun oil on the action. Everyone has thier favorites, just about anything commercially available is acceptable.

When you install a recoil pad, make sure it fits your 14 yo. The 20 dosen't kick terribly bad, it should be as comfortable as practicle. If your not comfortable installing one, you may opt for a slip on or have someone install it,

Sounds like a fun project. I own a 311 20 ga & really like it. iv'e killed a lot of dove, rabbit and squirrell with it.

We did indeed Sir, thanks. I hope Sailor has many memorable outings with his son when they get that 'ole Savage ticki'n.

I haven't been able to nail the date thing completely yet.

"Marked as a 311, it was made after 1941. Same gun was the 5000 in the 20's and a 5100 in the 30's. It was made until about 1988 or 89 but if it has no serial number it was made before 1969."

Thanks for the answers. The gun doesn't have serial numbers. I belive the gun is on th eolder side as it was originally my grandmothers gun and she died at 88 in texas about 20 years ago. I think the GX and c with a circle may identify the year of manufacture.

I found walnut stock and forends on line at Gunstocks inc. Will look at the Casey Birchwood refinish kits.

Plan to have my son involved with the project as this will be his first gun and it has sentimental value.

Check AuctionArms.com, Gunbroker.com and ebay. Ebay won't sell guns anymore, but they have a lot of accessories. Good luck. Good gun!

There is a stock makeing outfit from S. Dak. called Boyd's. They have wood inletted and shaped for most guns. I know they have for 311s, seems to be good quality for the price. Sorry I don't have address but should be able to gooogle them.
