Sheriff's Deputy Arrested On DUI Charges
Deputy Crashes Patrol Car Into Ditch

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Orange County sheriff's deputy was arrested Thursday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Local 6 News.
Local 6 News reported that Ricky Simmons apparently lost control of his patrol car and ran into a ditch located just off State Road 417 at Narcoosee Road. Simmons was off duty and not in uniform at the time of the incident.

Deputies responded to assist Simmons at about 4:30 a.m. and determined that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

The sheriff's office then reportedly requested that the Florida Highway Patrol respond and conduct the investigation.

Simmons was eventually arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol by the troopers, after he allegedly had a blood alcohol level of .18 percent.

He was booked into the Orange County Jail under $500 bond.

Simmons has been relieved of all law enforcement duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

He joined the Sheriff's Office on April 30, 1999
