Dang...and I thought it simply made the target easier to see...silly me. Well, back to the old drawing board. Does that mean I need to un-scope my Rem 600, 10/22, et al?
Hey Moose...how do I overcome the offset of balance my scope is causing..Geez, I didn't have a problem until now. Burst my bubble. I was doin' so well.
I guess the scope, bi-pod, flashlight holder, laser sight, bayonet, flash suppressor, sling, etc on my AR-15 has really screwed things up. BUT that's ok 'cause I don't own an AR anything.
Unless the scope is mounted incorrectly, it should have little effect on the weapon balance or its function. You may have to modify your spot-weld a little to accomodate the extra height.
Now, if you put a 12 pound scope on a 6 pound weapon, you may have an issue.

I agree with the balance point being thrown off and if one is ONLY going to shoot in the Prone, it probably will not matter. Anyone else who may be shooting OFF HAND, Sitting or even kneeling the front end heavy carbine may be harder to handle for a solid position. Then again, Position is EVERYTHING when I shoot and I only put on a bayonet when I have allowed them to get to close from shooting inaccurate shots due to front end heavy carbines.... as far as flash suppressors and all of the other Hoo Rah stuff, it is the BULLET that kills. I keep mine as original as possible. But that is me..... Old jar head > < me
I personnally don' understand why anyone would want to put a scope on such a short range firearm, but then again it is a FREE COUNTRY and different strokes for different folks. That is what makes the world go around. or was that Orbit???

Come on, go back and read what I said. Mine are all in the military configuration. However, even the military scoped the little shooter and called it an M3. BTW, The military scope system used for the M3 weighed in at around 32 pounds with it's battery system.
I believe it was a night sight but it used vacuum tubes instead of transistor and IC's that are used now. The think looked pretty much like a regular scope...a big one...and had a large circular unit hanging from the stock. Looked somewhat like a drum magazine for a Thompson. If I knew how to get pictures onto this site, I'd scan it in. I was joking when I stated earlier about putting a 12 pound scope on a 6 pound rifle...then I came across this old magazine article I have...wonders never cease.
