Gotta go get some hogs.

Well, I baited my hog trap and another one that was left on the property last night. My stepson just called to inform me that I caught 3 small pigs and 2 good-sized sows, so now I have to go shoot a couple of them and haul the rest to town to sell. So much for relaxing around the house today!

Sounds like fun to a guy that doesn't have that opportunity.

I think you should castrate the little ones, and let them grow. See what they taste like when they get a bit bigger, but no, I will not reach in there and do it for yah. You don't know how lucky you are to have the chance to do things like that, the hog trapping and hunting, not the trying to nuteur them.
Still waiting for directions, to get down there and help you control them, lol.

Well guys, today was interesting to say the least. When I got there it was discovered that there were 6 pigs instead of 5. We decided to sell the two big ones and butcher the little ones. After getting the big ones loaded, we went to the house to double check the air pressure in the trailer tires. When I walked in the house, the big sow found a 3" hole in the trailer floor that she could get her snout in. She ended up ripping two 2x6's out of the floor and crawling out underneath the trailer. Nick (stepson) happened to see what was happening and had his Sig P-220 on him, so he popped her in the back of the head as she was heading for parts unknown. We hauled the remaining hog (locked in rear of trailer!), to the sale barn, headed back to the house, dressed the big one out, ate, then went and shot the remaining 4 pigs. These looked pretty small, but after we shot them, they all turned out to weigh around 60 lbs. apiece. We hauled them up to the barn in the trunk of my '95 Merc. Tracer and skinned and quartered them. After hauling off the remains, we went back to the house and loaded the 200+ lb. carcass of the big sow in the back of my car and I took her to the processor. The one we sold weighed in @ 178 lbs, and the one we shot outweighed him by a good 75-100 lbs. I was a bit P.O.'ed that she escaped as she prob. would've brought $125+. When we gutted her, she was found to be pregnant with 9 babies. Here she is:

Thumbs up

Murphy's Law at work again, Toolman. Always happens at the worst time, too. But...you're gonna be in hog heaven the rest of the winter with what those hogs did for you.

You're right Ox. I'm actually having to buy a freezer because we're packed to the gills already and I still have two deer, 200+ dove, and now, this hog at the processor that I haven't picked up yet. This is on top of venison and pork left over from last year. I wish I had a big enough place to have a G&G barbecue so I could invite all of you guys for BBQ and brewski's.

Question:

How is feral hog meat. Just like regular pork?

I would love to help you out toolman, as I said before on another of your hog threads, but it's just too far a drive when I have classes here in the state. Though, they'll be done in August and I'll have my degree (hopefully!) so I like the idea of a roadtrip around then.

I also love the idea of a national G&G BBQ. Talk about good times with good folk!

heck toolman we don't need that room, besides most of us would sneak off to hunt more of them. Maybe I should bribe you with another freezer, lol/

Last Christmas we had 3 - 150# size hogs in trap, all boars. Ol buddy brought his tractor out so we could get through that muddy field. A freind,Jason, of son #1 came over at the right time. The three of us took care of hogs.
Jason took 4 shots with his 40 cal Glock. He thought, he the man!. Adam, son #1 shot 3 times. This ol man took the Glock, "I'll show you how to dissable them." Bang, 1 shot.
Jason got a hog for his praticipation.

Adam, son#1 took two hogs opening day. I took 2 hogs at Granger WMA December 11 this season.
