Tasco Target/Varmit 2.5-10x42 or 6-24x42?

Looking for a scope to put on a Savage Mark II-BV (.22 rimfire).

Savage Arms Mark II Rimfire Series Model Mark II BV

It will be used for gophers, plinking, and some target shooting. Which of these two scopes would you choose? Any personal experience with either of them that you could share? I've seen some comments on the 6x24 saying scope clarity is poor over 16X, and that at the higher X values you can't adjust parallax for short distances.

I realize these are not expensive scopes, but I'm thinking they should work on a .22 rimfire.

All comments appreciated,

Ron

Either scope should work fine but on a 22 rimfire I think the lower power is what I would choose. That would give you focus at closer ranges. I own a varmit rifle that wears a 6.5x20 and if the critter is under 30 yards range I shoot at the blurry spot.

Look at the Tasco World Class 4-16 X 40. I don't know how this compairs with the ones you have picked. I put this on my CZ .204 Ruger and like it just fine. You need to go at least to a 4 power on the low end for that .22 or you will miss out on some close in shooting.

You'd get more for your money if you went Leupold.

while i wouldnt buy a tasco scope, you can get a better value for your money than leupold. you can pick up a very nice scope from natchez under the browning name- these scopes are the same as bushnell 3200's.

The 4-14X range is closer to what I would like to have. However, I checked this one out and it does not have an adjustable objective lens to correct for parallax. Other than that it looks good.

I looked at both of these Tasco scopes today. They both seem to do ok close up even at the high powers. However, it is really hard to determine what the 6-24X does at 24X in the distance. You just can't hold it steady enough by hand (and not mounted). Both and in particular the 6x24 seem very sensitive to the AO setting. Set badly the image can be totally out of focus. Is that typical of AO scopes? Also the AO movement is not that smooth and quite stiff at times. I suppose that is a reflection of the quality of these scopes?

Still interested in comments on the value of the 2.5-10X compared to the 6-24X?
