ok for this days exercise i am attempting to reload some
180 sierra matchking hollow points.
i have
H4895
LAKE CITY brass
CCI primers
powder weights
36.7
37.9
39.1
40.3
i wish there was a way to get a little closer to finding my load without jumping through these hoops.
anybody loaded for a 10-fp with these components before?

i dont want to sound like a crybaby but these bullets are expensive and i cant buy anymore for at least a couple weeks.

so i am trying to keep waste down.

OK, is this for your .308?

If so, a question--why the heavy bullet? No problem if you want to use them--it's just that the .308 seems to like bullets in the medium to light range, at least in my experience.

My accuracy load is the 168 grain MatchKing, on 42.0 of IMR 4064. I use Federal cases, and load to an OAL of 2.800, no crimp. Works well out of my Savage 10FP.

Now, if you want some heavy match bullets on the cheap, check out Welcome to Bartlett Reloaders - Jeff Bartlett for some original Special Ball M118LR bullets.

Try 40.3 to 40.5 Gr. of 4895 for a MV of 2450...

the heavy bullets are because i have a box of them.
no 168's

i have 3 different types of 165's though.
but i wanna try these 180's

We tryed 180gr fbsp,s and had great results.We had good accuracy but not too good on longrange ballistics.(300yds+)

As I stated,we were using flatbase softpoints but we used a max charge of H 4895 with 42.5gr powder and standard seating depth of 2.800.You may be seating more bullet in the powder so I would assume your 40.3chg would be about the same.I see we had 2587fps average.We changed to 49gr,s Varget and hit 2634fps average.the accuracy was moa with the varget.I couldnt find accuracy with the 4895.We were using Remington casings.If you are using those military,you are probably maxed at 40.3.I cant find anything on best group but know it had to be under moa.According to what I see we couldnt have been much over 50k cup.I remember I thought there was excessive drop from 300to400yds,like 18"to20".Anyway we went back to 165gr bullets. sam.
