First SKS, First Post

I just picked my first SKS, its a Yugo L code in very good condition. I got it at Dunhams, the day I bought it they had $35.00 off any rifle over $150.00 so it ended up being $158.00. I think it was a good deal, I really like it .

The poor thing was in the display case at the store still caked in cosmoline. The clerk said that's why it was cheaper than the other 6 yugo's, no one wanted to touch it. Once I got it home I took and down a gave it a good cleaning. Can't wait to shoot it Saturday.

By the way this is my first post, I've been very impressed with the knowledge on this forum.

I do have one question. Is there a certain type of ammo that the SKS likes or does'nt like? I have some Wolf and Silver Bear ammo that I shoot thru my Vector Arms AK-47 I would like to use in it.

Welcome to the site.

That seems like a good deal. Those are really good shooters. I have had to adjust the front site on all of them that I and my buddies have gotten - don't forget your little adjustment tool thing.

That sounds like a good deal. SKS rifles of all types seem to be going up in price these days. I saw a beat up yugo in my local way over priced gun store for 400 bucks!! Thanks, but no thanks!

Shoot the wolf and silver bear, it should work fine. Oh, and welcome to the site!!!

Thanks .22 guy and SilverRun, I think it's great to have a site like this where everyone can share knowledge and experience. I know many benefit from reading these posts.

I would like to encourage people who are just surfing the web to stop and join in. Signup is very easy and you can post within minutes.

Also I need to get one of those front sight tools that SilverRun was talking about, good to have just in case. That's a basic item I neglected to think about until now.

Good advice on the cosmoline and my gas tube was packed also. I even removed the trigger group and removed all the cosmo, it was everywhere.

I shoot it today and did great!!! Even ran a few tracers thru it, no problems at all. I'm really happy with it and it's very easy to take down and clean, even easier than my M1 Grand.

Sounds like a good deal, think you'll like it. Be sure to clean all the cosmo. out of the bolt also. If you don't the firing pin could stick. Enjoy, and welcome.
