Anyone know where I can find an original, (or a good replica) 1896 carbine stock with all the parts?
I bought my U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1896 about 11 years ago from my ex wife's grandfather for $150. It's in original condition, except for a "sporterized" homemade stock. Fit & function are excellent, & it's a great shooter with mild reloads. Still one of my favorite rifles to take out to the range. I'd like to find an original style stock for it just so it's as close to original looking as possible. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
I've got one. It's a cut down '96 rifle stock. The barrel band is held in place with a brass rod abt. 3/32. I was going to fix it, found another stock, It was a '98 carbine stock modified to '96 configuration. So it's in the basement collecting dust. you can Email me EGREGG@HUGHES.NET if interested

I had seen the Military Krag Carbine Stock on page 911 of catalog #24
New American Walnut semi-inlet stock
item # 703160 not shure if they still have them or what they cost today , matching handguards also require final fit & finish Item #704220.
I was searching for an 1896 30-40 Kriag Carbine Stock when I stumbled onto your forum. I found a site called macongunstocks.net that sells decent looking stocks. Does anyone have any experience with them, or can anyone see any obvious flaws in their stocks?
I sold an 1899 carbine stock to a guy on ebay last week. He is up in IL and I still have his address. Not sure if he deals in them but if someone seriously wants one I will email him and ask. The one I sold him included the butt plate, very clear cartouche etc. and went for $400. Wish I could have sold the entire carbine on there to keep it together but rules are rules. Now to get rid of the rest of it.

old thread, new reply, I have a krag stock i might consider selling, it is just the stock , with the steel buttplate, and has the saddle ring on the side. original finish as far as i can tell and it does appear to have a bit of a wear spot about 3/4" in front of the trigger guard on the left side, possibly due to riding in a scabbard?? pics would help, i will see if i can get some.
I looked it over, and have some pics, it does have a few issues. sry
