Got a Carbine

I bought a Carbine today. It was made by National Postal Meter with a Marlin barrel. Serial # is 4373xxx. The reciever seems to be in real good condition, however the stock looks like somebody stripped it , then painted and varnished it. It came with another stock that needs work, but has a cartouch on it. Got the whole thing for $400. I plan on refinishing the furniture to restore it to its original color. Is this price to steep? The barrel is in great condition, muzzle looks good also.

Sounds like a pretty good price. The Marlin barrel could be orginal,I think Postal meter used Marlin barrels. That serial# puts it in the "late" catagory.
