Knife Report

Last week on Friday I ordered a knife from Sportsman Guide.
The name of this knife is .......................
Swedish Military Mora.
This paticular knife is an unissued military knife, so there brand new.

When I started receiveing Sportsman Guide catologs this knife was always in them and I would pause read and look it over and think I'd like to have that, it's looks good and might be handy.

When I signed up to receive there catalog I also checked the box to receive the Military catolog as well.

I received a Military catolog last Thursday and this knife was in it so Friday I decided to order it.

I received the knife yesterday evening and to my delight LOL it's sweet !!!

It will make a great hunting knife and fish cleaning knife too.
It has a thin blade that "is not" flexable, it's very ridged. Very Hard . I loved it !

It has a long bevel to the edge and is sharp.
The steel is a Swedish high carbon with the sides of the blade showing grain which is nice.

The handle is a lite weight high impact plastic with a textured over molded grip.
It's very solid.
If the picture appears that I copy'ed and pasted you'll notice the ends of the handle might be steel or brass there not, there plastic too,
but heavy duty and there part of the handle, meaning they "were not" added.

It comes with a high impact holster that is lite as a feather like the knife.
This is or will be one of the best skinning knives you'll own if you decide to get one.

I like it because it's lite weight and appears indestructable seriously !

Now here's the information from the catolog, lets see if all of it gets pasted on here.

Recruit this razor-sharp Swedish Mil. Mora Knife!

Thanks for the review, Mike. Swedish Moras are kissing cousins to the Finnish Puuko knives, which I've always considered some of the most practical blades ever made. Not gaudy or fancy, but designed to get the job done.

I need another knife like I need another Mosin Nagant rifle, but I may order one anyway...

I'll tell you what and to make a point troy if you order it and don't like it I will personaly refund every penny you paid for it.
I can't do that for everyone here and if it was a piece of chit I wouldn't have bothered to post this.
The holster clips on your belt for easy removeal or you can run your belt through it.

I seem to take a lot of stuff when I go hunting and I take one of 2 knives and there heavy on my belt.
You want know your wearing this one.

If you decide to order one plesae let me know what you think, I did my best to describe it.

Mike

LOL, great minds think alike Mike! I ordered one off of eBay awhile back and then the next day I ordered a bare blade so I could make a knife with my own handle design. I ended up spending less than $20 shipped for both combined. BTW, the guy has a business called Ben's Backwood Supplies. Here they are:

Neo, that one is factory. I'm thinking of making one for the bare blade out of Eucalyptus Burl orMesquite rootball.

That is a SWEET knife!!! How long is the blade? That would be a sweet blade to have for skinning or just as an everyday knife.

For the price, they can't be beat. They weigh almost nothing, the blades come in either carbon or stainless, and there are several different designs\sizes. They're also sharp enough to shave with right out of the box. I tried to buy the knife that AH has when i was in Sportsmans Guide a few months ago, but they were sold out, so i did a search on eBay and found a guy that has tons of them in all different configurations.

The blade is 3" 7/8'' long and your right it would be very handy.
The blade on this one looks a little different than the one toolman has posted (maybe)
The blade on mine has a light etching maybe due to being heat treated more because it's a Military vershion.
It's more of a duller finish too unless his camara flash made his shine.

Man I like it and the holster too. It's different than than the one toolman has posted.

Again it is so lite in weight, if you buy one you'll really like it...A.H

Mike both of my blades are highly polished carbon steel and look almost like they're chromed. the bare blade also has the Mora logo stamped in some sort of gold coloring. When i found mine, I started looking at all of them I could find and they have some really interesting blades. One of them is referred to as a Tri-Flex or laminated blade and has a high-carbon "edge" laminated in to a milder steel blade. Here's a link to his store :

Toolman did your knife come with both blades or did you buy it seperately?

I bought them seperately. I was looking at his auctions on eBay and found the knife with the "Buy Now" option and the next day, I looked at his store and found the blade.

Will all his blades fit this knife or should I look closely and make sure they match?

I don't know, but the handles are permanently afixed to the blade on the knives. I just bought the bare blade for a semi-custom project I have in mind.

I wish I had bought some more of them due to the shipping charges.
To me something like this would be a nice Christmas present too.

I'm looking at the handle on mine right now and I can't see anyway you would ever be able to pull the blade from the handle on this one so the blade most be laid in the handle mold before they pour the handle.

I also like the fact it's Military Surplus. If you get one it comes sealed in a plastic bag and it's oiled real good.
There NO blemishs on it what so ever.

I have 2 or 3 around here. Great knifes and take/keep a good edge. I like mine and use them for general purpose. I think they are a very good deal.
