shooting with partial stock

After recieving some much needed advice from Timberlord, I have just ordered a new front handguard from Numrich Gun Parts to replace my ill fitting old one. (Thanks again, Timberlord!)
My question is, I really want to go to the range this weekend -is it advisable to fire my rifle with the just the forearm and rear handguard (and buttstock) attatched; do I stand a good chance of cracking the timber, or should I revert back to the ol' Bubba stock? (hyuck, hyuck)
Thanks!
