Hard lesson learned

I hate insurance companies. I was half awake one morking at 0400 going to work and spilled about 25 atenolol down the kitchen sink.

No problem, called the doc's office and got another scrip. went to CVS to get it & found out it would cost me as the Ins already paid for the on line scrip.

Sure, no problem I'll pay $7.00 on the ins card. Nope, that will be $117 Sir

Looks like I'll be mising some BP med for a while, maybe take one every other day. Why have insurance?

insurance companies aren't there to do you any favors. there's a good reason that they are one of the larger money making institutions around.

PLEASE do not stop taking your BP medicine!!!! Go to your doctor and explain what happened. He/she may have some samples of another similar drug that can get you through. If you BP is out of control the complications could cost you much more than 117 dollars. Please talk to you doctor. I don't know you but I am sure I speak for a lot of people...We need you around a few more years!

Sorry to hear about that, Jerry. I work with insurance companies on a daily basis and not a day goes by that my better half doesn't ask me if I'm having fun, after he hears me raging at one of them on the telephone. He says he can tell if I'm having fun by how loud I'm yelling and number of four letter words I'm using in dealing with these knotheads who have no concept of medicine or human needs.

It's all about the money.

117 for a months worth of Atenolol sounds a little steep to me. What pharmacy are you using in the land of Peking..?I don't pay nearly that amount for it. Please do some shopping around and don't risk a stroke. It ain't worth it.

Sometimes your doctor can supply you with samples if you tell him or her the circumstances. That might be worth a try also. Good luck.

Thanks folks, good call on the samples. CVS Red, I do need to check around. My Son has no ins yet and we find huge variances in companies.

Wife had me check the car I left a few in there for those days that I left the house and foregot. All good.

Just mainly ranting about stupid Ins.

Try KMart. Always had good luck with their prices. Unfortunately, atenolol IS the generic form of Tenormin, which is a commonly used medicine for high blood pressure. Hey, did you ever reach a decision about that bucket o brass? PM my hubby if you did. A person can never have too much brass....

I didn't know what the heck atenolol was, so I looked it up. I noticed there are scary warnings about not stopping abruptly if you've been taking it. According to one web site, "Do not stop taking atenolol without talking to your doctor. Suddenly stopping atenolol may cause chest pain, heart attack, or irregular heartbeat. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually."

Looks like you're in a committed relationship with a pill, Jerry.

Apparently some pharmacies like Walgreens are starting a prescription club. I'm getting myself signed up for it in the next few days. It's something like $20 for the year and in many cases it greatly cuts the prices of prescriptions. You may want to look into that.

I sympathize with you on the medications. When I was going to school, my wife worked, but didn't get much money and I wasn't getting much income (National Guard, GI Bill, etc.). I remember one weekend both kids came down with ear infections. I was fortunate to be able to use the Indian clinic in town and got medication for both of them. I got the doctor's exam and meds for both of them courtesy of the BIA and Creek Nation. I think it was about $130, and that was 25 years ago.

On a lighter note about insurance companies, I had a buddy that ran into a big bull buffalo when he was driving his oil rigger crew to work at sunrise one morning. The truck was totaled, but the insurance company wouldn't pay. When they finally got hold of them (it was based in New York), the agent said, "Buffalo are extinct."

It's an evil we're not allowed to live without. Take your medicine, like your momma always told you! We don't want to hear that you're in the hospital for a stroke! Blood pressure problems are real sneaky, and you gotta stay on top of 'em! Or they sneak up and get you, and nobody wants to get bad news. Take care, it sounds like you got some good advice. Scotty

Yup,that's how it works. And by the way,our company dropped the $7.00 co-payment and we now pay an adjusted price,so don't be surprised if you'res does the same thing.
Ya' just gotta love 'em!
