I've seen a squib with another round fired in a Glock with 40 cal Blazers, just ended up with a bulged barrel. Guess we were lucky. Glock used to say no blazer or wolf steel cased ammo. My experience is that the blazer ammo tore up the breech faces on my departmental model 19s after 6 or 7 thousand rounds it was noticable. I have seen a Wilson Combat 45 destroyed from chamber and breechface erosion in a pistol that only fired Blazers (10K+) from it.

I had no trouble with revolvers just semiautos. CCI even says not for rifles/carbines. CCI,Remington, Winchester all make inexpensive brass cased ammo which for me costs the same or pennies a box more, it has never failed and always seemed a bit more controllable than the Blazer. Although after many thousand rounds of Blazers (200+K ) one catstropic failure isn't bad.

I believe that the aluminum doesn't expand correctly and we get blowback gasses in the chamber from around the case and that is what causes the damage to the breech faces, in the revolvers it isnt a problem. Shooting Blazers once in a while shouldn't be a problem but a constant supply may be an issue

I emailed SA on this exact issue. It's safe to fire. I personally use the Hornady TAP 230gr JHP +P .45 loads for carry. They obviously recoil just a tad harder, but cycle and feed are perfectly fine. Here's the response I got back from SA:

"Due to the fact that our entire line of XD pistols feature fully supported and ramped barrels, using +P and +P+ ammunition will not damage your gun. However, we do recommend that you make sure the ammunition is American made and is in new condition (not repackaged or reloaded.) Due to the increased power of +P and +P+ ammunition, the cycling of your XD may be affected by this different ammunition. If you are planning to use +P or +P+ ammunition, we recommend that you fire it extensively at the range before relying on it for concealed carry or self defense. It is important to ensure that it will run reliable in your XD. Although +P or +P+ ammunition will not damage your XD, a steady diet of this higher power ammunition may decrease the service life of the barrel and/or firearm."

Oh, and has anyone noticed that the muzzle flash is gigantic with CCI Blazers compared to anything else, including +P rounds? Slower burning powder maybe?

haven't fired the XD yet, but I have never ever carried anything but Cor-bon +P for my carry pieces and they feed better than most FMJ's I've fired...And yeah. Blazer's really are!! LOL...They BLAZE...big time muzzle flash, but again, nice price and generally pretty reliable...

I know this post will start some nasty remarks. When I started loading for XD-45 I was very low on brass cases and found out I could load steel cases. Just make sure they are clean and free of rust. They work fine and keep them on hand now if I do some shooting in a location looking for bass is impractable.
