Soldier Says Bin Laden's Position Was Known
Newspaper Can't Confirm Report

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- There's a report out Friday that troops in Afghanistan once pinpointed Osama bin Laden's exact location but failed to act because military leaders were too slow to give orders.

The Fayetteville Observer quoted a soldier as saying troops knew which cave bin Laden was in during the November assault on the Tora Bora cave and tunnel complex.

Military officials said they have no knowledge of the incident, and the North Carolina newspaper said it hasn't been able to find any other soldiers to back up the story.

The soldier quoted said bin Laden's cave was 30 minutes from his position. The newspaper agreed not to publish his name.
