Lyman's 42nd Edition (1960) shows 15 loads for the 45ACP with cast bullets.

the lead will work. ive put many thousands of rounds of lead thru my 1911. ive never tried a 250gr bullet, but if that one doesnt work, try a different weight or profile, or O.A.L.

A little bit of suggestion . . .

It is not really related to your question but many old timers would load a jacketed cartridge first in their magazine with lead bullets filling up the rest of the magazine.
In that way it was felt the jacketed bullet would "clean" out the lead deposits from the earlier fired rounds.

back in the early 70's lead is all we shot . if you did alot of shooting that was the way to go ..... ive just started loading for the .45 acp again and all im useing is lead... befor they just jumped up the price of powder and primmers i figured it cost me 2.50 a box to load

i just looked in my old lyman book and 230 gr is the biggest they show for .45 acp's the 250 is for the long colt....

You can load 250s in the .45 acp. Just be aware that I read somewhere that a 250gr bullet from a .45 puts something like 50% more stress on a pistol frame than does a 230 gr bullet.

I used 250gr reloads, loaded by someone else to hunt with. They were okay but jammed often. These were loaded to about 750fps and I never noticed a difference in recoil but accuracy wasnt great. We thought the bullets were long for the twist.(maybe not stabilising.)You also have to keep the lead shavings cleaned out from chambering,or we did. sam.

Some of the guys at my club use 250s for their pin loads. I'll ask them what they use next time I see them.

Lead bullets will work fine in the 1911. Accuracy may not be the best because the shalllow rifling was intended for jacketed bullets. If the bullets were designed for the .45 Colt, they may not feed reliably. You won't know unless you try.

yes those 250's will work unique is a good powder to use
just remember they will take up more room in the case
reduce accordingly and work up 4.0 is prob ok start

Lead works OK, but I prefer using Moly coated. They are only a little bit more than hardcast, and do not lead up your barrel at all.
