I got food poisoning late last night and was rushed to the emergency room where I had my stomach pumped and was filled with more drugs than were at Woodstock. I have to tell you all this is the sickest I have ever been in my life. I seriously thought I was going to die and I still feel the same. I was released this morning and I don't even the strength to go get my prescriptions. I don't know if Jason's Deli is a national chain or not, but do eat there. I am in bad shape.

I've gotten it pretty bad before and I was in the same boat. Sickest I had ever been, I had it coming out both ends about every 15 seconds, literally. Finally, I started cramping up from all the heaving and passed out. It was a bad deal. But you will get better after a while. Hang in there....

We cain't afford them there hi-dollar places!! Hope you get well soon, it doesn't sound like much fun. And I gotta say, That's a tuff way to take a vacation! Hope you get a smile outa this! Get Well!!!
Yeah Jason's Deli is a national chain. I've never gotten sick off them, but my friends got sick of Quiznos recently. I think it all depends on who is handling your food. If they look dirty, don't eat there.
Hope you start feeling better soon. I hope they gave you some phenergan or something.
Been there, done that, no fun at all. Be sure to keep hydrated. Gatorade or equivalent is good, so is (don't laugh) Pedialyte, which might be gentler on your abused GI tract than Gatorade since it's made for very small children. At least drink water. You would be astonished at how fast food poisoning can suck the fluids right out of your body and land you right back in the ER with an IV stuck in your arm to rehydrate you!
Several weeks ago I got food poisoning from eating a veggie wrap at a local restaurant. I haven't been that sick in ages and the speed in which it hit me was amazing.
I'm of the firm belief that the 17 year olds working in the majority of these places never wash their hands. After doing research, I think the type of poisoning I had was a staph variety. My face was red and hot, I couldn't eat, and that was the least of my problems if you get my drift.
Short of never eating out, there is little you can do to prevent the risk, and I think deli's are your worst offender. I hope you called your public heath agency and reported it. They need to pay that place a visit and lay some heavy tags on them along with fines.
Feel better,
Red

It is now Sunday and I feel much better. I did get a scrip for phenergan, but two 1000 Ml of normal Saline really helped me. Being a medic has is perks because last night I started another IV on myself and set it wide open with saline and phenergan.
Thank you all so much for your support. I am now over the worst of it and by tomorow I will be 100%. Boy am I glad that is all behind me. I am going to the restaurant tomorow and seeing if they will cover my co-pay of $75. Again, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

I'm a nurse and IV certified and I don't think I have the guts to start an IV on myself
You must have really been sick to have reached that level of desperation. Good job. You probably sped your recovery up doing that.
Hope you continue to feel better.

I teach IV administration classes all the time to EMTs and Techs and first responders. I used start them on myself all the time, but last semester the campus said I couldn't do it anymore. It does feel like it hurts more when you put it in yourself, but I always go for a 20 in the hand.

I had that when I was in Alaska. I got mine from a roast beef sammich at Red Robin. I was the same way...practically begging for death to come. No fun at all.
That's been 13 years or so and I still can't bring myself to consider eating roast beef. I know that's not very rational, but that experience put some kind of long-term mental block in my head. Every time I smell or see roast beef, I flash back to that day in the hospital.
What was it that you ordered to eat> How long did it take before you got deathly sick. I sure know what that feels like as I get these attacks several times every month or every few months, I used to go to the hospital and get morphine for pain and anti sickness pills. I am so glad you are better, did you report it.....It is scary to eat out at this places as people don't wash there hands and keep the work areas clean...I am sure hoping you will be back to feeling better, sorry you had to go through that as I sure know what that is like.
