I love stories like that. They remind me of the common sense attitude that my Grandfather and so many of his generation had. I like to think I have some of that in me.
I've lived in D.C. and now Vegas the past 10 years...I don't see much of it in today's citizens. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places...
I thought it interesting to note that the assailants had driven by his home twice that morning. This is why it's critical to be cognizant of your environment and ratchet up your readiness condition when something seems out of place.
It's too bad he didn't have the time/ability to phone for assistance with a battle that long in duration. This country needs more Homers, not less.
At any rate, good on Homer...I'm glad he was smart enough to prepare, and tough enough to fight back. I wish him a speedy recovery.

It's a fabrication. I'd have to look to document that, but shortly after that story broke a year and a half ago, or so it came out that he'd staged the whole thing.
