If this is the drilling you are talking about, it was not made in the USA it was imported by Sloans sporting goods. The American three barrel company never made anything that good! That is the reason they are no longer in buisness! They were pretty sloppiely madelike most American double barreld shotguns. That drilling is an absolute steal at that price! It is plain but a very well made drilling, and perfect for hunting in North America! Ammo for that gun is avaliable in any country store in any place where deer hunting is allowed!
Hmm, that ones looks too conventional. The one I was thinking of was an over/under style with a lever and double triggers - looked more like a hybrid between a skeet gun and a saddle carbine.

It comes under the heading of J.P. Morgan's observation, "If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it." You could put a substantial down payment on a house for what a drilling custom-fitted to you would cost.

There was ONE other type of option...multi barrel shotguns...with all shotgun barrels.

MT-s40

Famars Rombo is a four-barrel as well...
Famars Abbiatico & Salvinelli fine shotguns rifles

And then there are three barrel 12-12-20 gauge This one made by MacFairlain

There are a few tri-barrel shotguns, made by American Arms (the Bristol) in 12, 16 & 410 gauges.

And of course, we CAN NOT forget Reggie Bannister's Quad Barrel shotgun from Phantasm movies

Who can beat a 1970 HemiCuda & a 4-barrel Shotgun??
Only Ash, baybee...only Ash

Things that make you go: HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm!
For example: This Dreiling (drilling) was made by Jos. Mayer, Saulgau. I lived in Germany for 4 years, and I "think" Saulgau is either a city or district. Hum on this: in 1988, a well-known gun appraiser in California said this about my "triplet" gun: "To my knowledge and research, only 3 of these guns were produced by this firm. The other two's whereabouts is a mystery to me. For replacement value: Irreplaceable. Insurance value: $10,000 conservatively."
Now, get out your calculator and start with $10,000 in '88. Do inflation for the past 21 years. Still no trace (that we can run down) of the other two guns, and maybe, just maybe you might see why a wealthy, greedy (redundant) attorney might what to pay $35,000 for it. HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm. Maybe not thought. You decide.

You'd be foolish not to take that offer if it is legitimmate.

Jos. Mayer's Drilling

HI Purdy,
Ordinarily, I'd say you are correct when you say I'd be foolish not to accept the offer. However, three things object to that advice:
1. I don't need the money.
2. I LOVE that gun!
3. I want my son and grandson(s) to have the option of holding it, shooting it and admiring it. It's in my will, anyone of my survivors that attempts to sell it, for three more generations, for forfeits it.
Stubborn I know, "But I've paid the cost to be da boss!"

Dear tyler'

I posess such an antique firearm that you describe. It is a 3 barrel combination shotgun/rifle. Made by a master gunsmith/engraver from nurimberg germany. His name is valentin Kern. This piece was made pre-wwII. It was said by my family that thepiece was made for General Guering(excuse my spelling).I am presently looking into auction houses which to sell this antique for me. German guns.com wants me to send them pictures of the antique to feature it in their journal. I havent decided yet what i will do. I hope this info was helpful to you

While stationed in Germany I went throught the Jagerbrief course and we were shown several Drilling guns at the German gun club. These were used a lot in stand hunting and the hunters were ready for Aurhahn (sp) and Roebuck. There version of Turkey and Deer in one sitting.
