Hello everyone,
I'm looking to buy a 22 semi pistol in the $300 range, give or take. I'm looking to do some target shooting, maybe get my wife and eventually the kids into shooting.
I've been looking at the walther p22, s&w 22a, sig mosquito and the rugers but any reliable gun would be great. Any suggestions or pros/cons of the ones I mentioned would be greatly apprecciated.
I found a Ruger MK II 678GC last year for $350. You couldn't do mcuh better than this. It has a long barrel. If you prefer a shorter barrel, look for a MK II512 or MK III512 with a 5 1/2" barrel. It is a trade-off between balance and sight radius.
the sig mosquito will be over your price there. of the ones you have listed I would suggest the Rugers. I also think you should take a look at the Browning Buckmarks.
Good luck!

Walther and Sig are garbage in my opinion. Ruger or Buckmark. Rugers are a PAIN to clean, as I am finding out. The next 22lr pistol I buy will be the Buckmark. I had one before and I can kick myself for letting it go.

please dont get the sig masquito its not reliable at all, it will jam all over the place. my best friend has one and he has only found one brand of ammo that works semi-well, i suggest a ugly but reliable ruger semi. and if you dont mind a revolver then i realy suggest the ruger single six.

EXACTLY two70! Igoto look at a Ruger MKIII yesterday, fluted barrel, loaded chamber doohicky, very prtty pistol! But I keep thinking about what a pain in the Ay-double-scribble they are to reassemble! Maybe its just me but the Buckmark camper is SSWWEEEETT!

majicjeep: Sir; the Ruger MK11-111 will serve you well. Accurate good looking and will not stay broken down.
GunTalkonline. Fellow named Bullseye.
He has complete HOW TO. For anything Ruger MK Series.
Once you do the disassembly clean thing it becomes easier. See the Bullseye articles;
you can also find him at Rimfirecentral. His name there is Bullseye.
A most generous gentleman, willing to share, with a decent attitude.

I have a Ruger MKII 22/45 5.5" bull and I absolutely love it. It is accurate, reliable, has a great trigger, and is a high quality gun. I love to shoot it and so does my wife.
It is true that the Rugers are tricky to re-assemble, but I really have not had any major problems.
Although, I've only ever broken down my gun twice. I've easily shot around 2000 rounds through my gun without really cleaning it well. Just squirt a little RemOil in the action and the gun runs like its brand new.
But, if you're going to be lazy with cleaning like me, you do have to be careful to make sure that the breech doesn't get so gummed up that it won't go into full battery. Although I've never had this problem because I do occasionally at least wipe a patch or two in the breech.
So, I can defnitely recommend the Ruger Mark I/II/II series to you.

Reason: Automerged Doublepost
I owned a MKII Stainless Bull Barrel in the past, and currently own a MKIII Slabside Target. I liked the MKII better, only because takedown was a little easier without the magazine safety and slightly easier to clean without the loaded chamber indicator.
Both were accurate, reliable, and good fun to shoot. I woudn't hesitate to buy another.
I think they get a bad rap for dissassembly only because there is a trick to it (you have to hold the gun at certain angles at certain stages of dissassembly/assembly). Have the store you buy it from show you a couple of times and practice a couple of times and you should have it down.
When I bought my MK II, I got a tutorial but I didn't take it apart for a few days after getting it home. It was used, and didn't have a manual. After me and my buddy both trying for about an hour, I finally had to swallow my pride and take it back to the store to have a "refresher course". I expected my buddy at the gun store to give me a hard time, but he said that I wasn't the first and won't be the last.
