Anyone else play paintball?

Hey guys and gals,

I was wondering if anyone else here besides me play paintball? I ask because a large part of the sport of paintball is to modify the markers to look like real firearms, and this type of thing in the industry is called "Milsim", short for Military Simulation. I figured some of you guys here on G&G may be into that kind of thing?

Anyway, I've been playing paintball for only a handful of years, but I'm about waist deep into the sport. I own 4 markers, one of them being a magazine fed pistol. I also have combat fatigues, load-bearing vest, and enough assorted gear to outfit two other buddies so they won't have to rent anything. I play outdoors in the woods and a few times a year I'll join large scenario based events that include over 1000 players.

I haven't really done much modifying of my markers to make them milsim, but I do have a pistol as a sidearm, and my main marker resembles an H&K submachinegun.

One of the things I love most about this sport is that there's plenty of comraderie that can be found on the field. It's real easy to make friends with strangers from a day of paintball. And best of all, the kids can play with their parents or grandparents, it brings people together. The after action stories are real fun to listen to too.

I go ballin' from time to time. Too exspensive to go alot and my knees can't handle all the running around. It is fun to beable to legally shoot at your friends tho. I've got a belt that holds my air tank(I use a remote line) and four pods. My marker looks like a sniper rifle with a longer barrel and a extendable stock. I'm usually the only girl on the course that is doing more than hiding behind a bunker giggling. I ain't afraid to make kamakazi runs to flush guys out for the rest of my team. Had a total of 18 welts the last time I went ballin', and many of those were multiple shots in the same spot.

I used to quite a bit, but in the last couple of years, I haven't as much. My freind moved into a new house, and we will be setting up a course in his woods this spring.

I have a pretty nice electronic marker, and the rest of the gear to go along with it.

I try to get out and sling paint a couple of times every summer. I've got my own gear, but none of my friends do so I'm kinda limited on who I go with.

I started playing about 6 years ago. Really had a lot of fun the first few years, but I've slowly drifted away from the sport since all my friends around here have moved off to college (while I stay here and take over my dads business) But I'm still modding guns and gear. I just finished modding a 98 custom I've had for a long time. And when I mean modding, I mean actual mods, not just bolt on crap.

Anywho, great sport... I'm down to all the guns I'm going to keep even if I never play
Spyder Xtra (My first gun)
68 Automag Classic
68 Automag Classic (pistol setup on a remote line)
Tippmann 98 Custom (looks like a MP5)
Tippmann 98 Custom (pistol/SMG) Runs off 12 grams

And just because...heres a pic

I used to play pretty often (about 10 years ago), but haven't played in a long time. I sold my marker at one point so that I could fund a shotgun (I went from paintballing to trap shooting).

I used to have a Tippmann Model 98, and I love it. It's an expensive sport though.

i never got into paintball, to unrealistic looking for me. My airsoft stuff (not the chain store ones they are really weak) is extremly realistic. real weight real mag capacity semi accurate haha. i know that paintballers say that airsoft doesnt hurt but i have scars from when its broken skin and bled for awhile

Depending on the range, Airsoft definitely hurts, sometimes more. I have bled from airsoft, but I've also been cut from paintballs too.

I used to play regularly with coworkers, but we stopped going after a blowup between some people. I don't work there anymore and haven't found another group to go out regularly with. I only play forest-ball... I won't pay to play a sport that's already expensive.

I'm not a regular player, but once in awhile I do play, when relatives invite me. It's a boat load of fun.

Yeah, I'll tell ya, there's nothing in the world that will get your heart pumping as hard as making a run for a bunker under fire, sliding in and hearing paintballs whizzing past your head inches away and hitting the bunker you just got to... and not worrying about going home in a body bag. (I'm sure a real firefight will get your heart going like that, but I like the idea of going home alive)

agreed, i have bled from quite a distance. we get kinda ridiculous when we play. full grappling fights during CQC, snipers in woodland, havent been able to do the 50vs50 battles though that would be crazy

I Love paintball. I have a slightly modified Tippman 98. If you ever get the chance you should go to skirmish USA in PA. I attended their last big scenario game "the battle for berlin". Last July they set a record for the largest paintball scenario game "the Normandy invasion" with over 2000 players.

Before I bought a new barrel, I checked the customer reviews on actionvillage.com and some other forums. Everyone said the same thing; the flatline barrels are very inacurate. I bought an "Empire Twister" barrel instead, it's very acurate up to about 260-280 fps plus I paid half what you would for a Flatline.

We don't paintball, but did purchase and shoot airsoft guns. Made a target from some foam covered with paper.

Tonight we did a run walk of about a mile in a fresh snow. Nothing has been down the road for the past 4 hours.

Thumbs down paintball

I done the real thing 36 years ago, when you got hit you couldnt wipe the paint off, it was the real thing, like my old drill sargeant used to say "mud washes off, bullet holes dont" if you saw what a real bullet did to a human body and the real fear that went with it, you wouldnt even think about playing a game. if you want a real thrill, join the military, there's lots of grunts that need relief, and you dont get to get back in to the game after getting "hit"
