| Iran stakes claims in Nicaragua and other Latin American countries
Do we believe this stuff is truely dangerous, or will our govt. be lying to us in order to justify a fight against Iran? MySA.com: Metro | State EDIT: This story can be found on major news outlets. But, I found it here and it is a VERY thorough report of the happenings, so figured I would use it rather than the 3-paragraph reports of CNN, CBS, etc...

I read every bit of it and I can't help wonder why the U.S. hasn't taken better care of our South American neighbors. In order to prevent a possible bad or even worst situation than we have now. No futher comment but I could RANT...A.H |

Iran has stated basically that they hate and resent the West, they detest Israel and would like nothing better than for all of us to vanish from the face of the earth. That understood coupled with the basic fact that they ARE an extremist Islamic State would most definately cause me concern were Iran be attempting to gain deep water ports and infrastructure in the western hemisphere. Enough to go to war Hmmmm not yet but more than enough to put to them behind closed doors the very clear message than such actions would not and will not be tolerated. Leave the rest to their imagination as to what we mean.

I'm starting to worry about a coming war with Iran. All those under sea cables that have been cut, connect Iran to the rest of the world. We have them somewhat boxed in to the east and west, and could easily put a blockade to the south. Also, Iran is supposed to go through with their oil bourse, maybe within the next week. The last country in the middle east to do this was Iraq. Funny thing to, we invaded them around the same time. Yes, I realize this is the web, but I read a post somebody made on another forum about his brother in law leaving for the middle east with his carrier group. He mentioned something about the Marines being with him, and saying his brother thought it was strange(whatever was going on). He said that in 16 years of being in the Navy the only other time this had happened was right before we invaded Iraq. Again, yes, I realize this is the internet, and what the guy said was kind of sketchy. Either way, this mixed into our economy going down the toilet, upcoming elections, and the simple fact that if we leave Iraq certain "people" could lose their grip on a major amount of oil, I really hope we don't have a very bad day coming in the near future. I also read that an anti missile destoyer? just docked in Israel. Yes, my tin foil hat is on a little snug... but still.

Well, let's see. The United States goes around bitching at every nation that does not believe what we believe, or against those countries which do not contribute to our economic standing. We have military installations around the globe. Iran tries to put a foot in the global market and we start to get pissed and threaten war. I will say this. If they come onto our land forcefully...if they take action against us overtly by letting us know they did it...then we should nuke-em back into the stone-age. But, until then...we need to keep our damn grubby, dirty government hands out of their business and off of their doings. I have no doubt that the Iranian leaders are whack jobs. They talk the talk all too often. But, they haven't really made any large move against us. If we persecute them for one of the freedoms we hold most dear ourselves, that being freedom of speech, then I would question our own morality. And don't get me wrong, I really wish the world could be rid of Islamic Extremists who would kill those who do not believe as they do. But..., I don't believe our govt. officials as far as I could push them and I sure as hell will not support an action against Iran or any other country for that matter, because of some "threat" they have posed to us verbally or some report given by some "yes man" working for our government. The "Terrorism" card has been played one too many times. If our government gave any kind of CRAP about terorrism, they would be expending all resources on finding Osama Bin Laden. But, they are building a pipeline, and rebuilding Iraq and blah blah blah... They don't give a crapola about protecting us or anyone else. They want as much money and power as quickly as they can get it.

Thanks for the post and update Pred. This is really scary. Terrorists could be on their way or possibly already in our country through the loose security of our Southern Boarder. Going the other direction it is not far to the Panama Canal and oil refineries it that area which supply oil to the U.S. I believe that something will have to be done.

On the other hand, I'm neither surprised nor particularly worried. The world has always been a dangerous place, and if we're going to screw with Iran over there, I think we can expect them to try establishing a presence here in return. We need to keep a good eye on them, but it's not panic time. Quote:
If we had cared what was happening there before the Sandanistas took over, maybe they would never have gained power.

We seem to really foul things up everytime we get involved down there. Maybe we oughta just wait, and watch, and keep our noses out of it until we REALLY are needed!

| Not so dangerous
The Latin American countries are not friendly to Islam. Also, despite the current press about one nation, they are no longer inclined to having a strongman rule. The educational level is rising, the economic situation is improving, and the young people are interested in the American lifestyle rather than revolution. Brazil has just annonced the discovery of phenominal offshore petroleum and natural gas deposits that will further make the middle east unnecessary for Latin American progress. The days of the banana republic dictatorship are heading to the dust bin of history. Note that even in Venezuela the people are putting restrictions on Hugo Chavez. It is not worth it to react to the typical Bush administration "juice the conservatives" war hype (remember the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?). This is just the desperate, dying effort to justify a failed foreign war policy designed to hide a failed domestic policy. Last edited by nathangdad; 02-08-2008 at 03:35 PM. Reason: Update |

Our Gov. has had a beef with Iran it would seem like forever. But most recently because they know Iran is developing a nuclear weapon, and Iran is saying it's for energy. Saw something on the news today about France saying what Iran was proposing to send into space wasn't meant for space or something like that. It was on the ticker and I caught the tail end of it as I tuned in. It is a scary thought. Iran and most all other Muslim countries have always hated the West. Quite simply, they want us all dead because we're not Muslim. Thing to be concerned with, is who would join Iran? Can we count on Korea minding it's own business? What about Syria? Not a big country, but full of terrorists. What about Cuba. Iran just made nice nice with their leader. Will they try and put missiles there like Russia did? Cuba isn't exactly our friend either. The more our government sticks it's nose into the middle east, the angrier Muslims over there will become. If it keeps happening, I don't see why they wouldn't all unite against a common enemy(USA). I'm dang sure that's what I'd do if some big country came over here and started trying to control everything. Moral is, mess with the little guy enough and he's eventually going to fight back. What our government NEEDS is to stop trying to police the world and improve conditions at home. It is NOT our job to make sure everyone does as WE please. They're HAPPY fighting each other and if that's what they want, we shouldn't deprive them of that luxury. If they're busy with themselves there will never be a major threat to this country.

The original wound in 1947 has become malignant, our gummint along with big business cares less how this will turn out, only that they get maximum profits. This infiltration in to South American is bad chit! What with our greedy gummints open border policy we will eventually get a lot of grief that we didn't expect. Stay tuned for more fruit reaped from the mighty Bush's reign. Oh,yeah, and Chaney's smile is becomeing broader than ever! Drive on!
