Tex, here's an indicator for you. And please bear in mind this happened in the Peoples Democratic Republic of New York, about as blue as state as you can find.

The day after the 2006 midterm elections, the one where the Democrats got majorities in both the House and the Senate, and had already announced Nancy Pelosi as their choice for Speaker of the House, the No. 3 position in the line of succession in the Federal government, I had occasion to stop by my local gun shop to pick up some ammo. As I usually do, I stopped by in the middle of the day, shortly before noon.

Normally at that time of day on a Wednesday, the place is nearly deserted. You'll have one or two regulars who have stopped by to pick up ammo or targets or maybe some fishing tackle, and to look the racks and glass cases over to see if anything new and interesting has come in. Maybe you'll ask the owner if you can handle something you're thinking about buying and want to get the feel of. Everyone has time to chat and talk guns. Not this day.

There were at least a dozen people in front of the counters, maybe as many as sixteen or twenty. The owner and a couple of the regulars were explaining firearms-related things to folks and watching them as they handled everything from side-by-side 12s to AK-47s and .45 ACPs. And they weren't window-shopping, either. They had cash and credit cards in hand, and the owner's wife alternated trips to the cash register with trips into the back room with the transfer forms to run the transactions through NICS. These people ran the gamut from doctors, lawyers and professional-looking types to ordinary working stiffs and housewives, and they were buying. I watched at least half a dozen people walk out with boxes or gun cases and shopping bags with ammo and cleaning gear in them in the time I was there; and the owner's wife said it had been like this since they opened that morning.

While I was waiting my turn, I asked a few of them why they had come in that day I got the same answer from all of them.

"Now that the Democrats have control of Congress again, and they've put that rabid bitch Pelosi in as the Speaker of the House, we're getting our guns while we still can!"

The Democrats can say anything they like about their party's position on gun control, but the people of a Democratic, liberal state have eyes to see with, and good memories of what things were like the last time the Democrats had control of the Congress and had one of their own in the White House. And as far as the Second Amendment goes, it would seem they don't trust the Democratic Party very much. I wonder why that might be....

Thus endeth the lesson.

Lightbulb

If the Dems get in it will happen, probably nibble, nibble, ammo mags, black guns first.
If the Republicans stay in it may happen, boom all of a sudden under homeland security.
I would stick with the Reps.

If Dems gain control of the White House and maintain control of both houses of Congress I would be willing to bet HR1022 (new assault weapons ban) becomes law within 60 days. And it goes MUCH farther than the last one.

Is hr1022 still active? I thought (for no real reason) that it had been voted on. Of course even if it had been, they will just bring it back up.

If anyones wanting a clue to what the next ban may consist of, not to mention it's being pushed to be a permanent ban, just google HR 1022 and check out all that's on it. The .22rifle with 10 round magazine is even on it if I remember correct, and yes, any mag of or holding 10 rounds or more. Not sure as to the status if this ban, but I suppose I could always look to find that out.

Just checked, shows as only INTRODUCED still at this point.
