What type action are you looking for?Single shot break, pump, bolt?
Mossberg model 500 pump in.410 starts around $300.00.

for a beginner, get a 20ga, or 12 ga with light loads.

Rossi has some good deals for begginners. Look at the matched pairs they offer. I think H&R has one too.

Was looking at the Rossi's myself. The Matched Pair was available locally for about $140, which included a choice of .410 or 20 gauge, and a 22LR each. My only problem was that they were single shot and I was looking for a pump action. I would think a single shot 22LR would be difficult to load with my clumsy fingers, though my kid might have an easier time. Since she already has a Plinkster, I really didn't need the option.

On the plus side, besides the interchangable barrels, they were light weight and seemed to be pretty good quality.

We ended up getting a Charles Daly 20 gauge because of the price (under $200), but if I had the extra cash to spend I would have gotten the Mossberg .410 or 20 gauge pump action model. I'm a big fan of Mossy's now, in my short time owning guns, so my opinion doesn't hold a lot of weight. Just thought I'd share my observations on the Rossi's.

Rossi is worth it

I have a high regard for my Rossi and plan to purchase the .243
heavy barrel gun later this spring.

I recommend it. Do not worry about the loading as it is not
difficult and will be no problem for a younger person. Also,
a single shot is the ideal first gun to learn concentration,
target acquisition, follow-through, etc.

You need an FFL license to order online. However you can order online if you have them ship it to your dealer.

Dick's sporting goods stores have them. Do you have one of those near you?(it's similar to Sports Authority)

I would get a 20 Gauge. The shells are a lot cheaper, and you can do a lot more with them.

I'm glad you bought a .20ga.I dont consider a .410 a beginners gun since it takes more skill to hit with it than any other guage. sam.
