foreign chamber and ammo standards,Delta L Problem.

Have seen where shooters have had chambering and headspace problems when using foreign rifles and ammo.European manufactures use CIP standards for chambers and ammo standards and American manufactures use SAAMI standards. They arent the same and if you have a European rifle chambered at minimum CIP specs and an American cartridge it wont chamber because the CIP chamber is shorter than the cartridge made to SAAMI specs. If you have a rifle chambered to SAAMI specs and have a cartridge manufactured to CIP specs you have a headspace problem. This is called the Delta L problem. CIP stands for Commission Internationale Permanente Pour L'Epreuve des Armes a Feu Portatives. SAAMI stands for Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute. They dont use the same deminsions and cause the problems mentioned.Often a firearm manufactured in Europe will have a chamber reamer to fix the chamber problem. The ammo will fire in a controlled feed but runs on the dangerous side.I looked in my books and saw this but I am lousy on a computer and cant post what "Delta L Problem" is so I looked for a site on the web and came up with wikipedia by putting it on the search bar and putting rifle cartridges on their search bar.The reason I believe this is important is the most common Delta L Problem is American cartridges like the .30-06,.222 class and such can have very sloppy headspace problems if mfg,d under CIP specs. It is good reading,I wish I were smart enough to post it. sam.
