I am looking to purchase a gun from gunbroker.com. How do I do that? I know I have to register with them and bid like ebay, but what is an FFL and how do I find someone who has one? Is there a charge for getting the gun shipped to a dealer (besides shipping, I mean)? I would like a step by step walkthrough on how to do it. Is it even a wise thing to do?

On Gunbroker.com ... if you want to purchase through them, you must contact a local FFL dealer. To do this, there is a place (buyers tools, I think) that you can look up a local dealer. Contact them... make sure they are still in business and are okay with the transfer. Once the purchase is made... you provide them the FFL dealers' contact info for shipment. This will cost roughly $30.00 ... depending on what it is. Obviously, you will probably have to pay shipping too. You fill out the applicable ATF forms with the dealer and wait your time. The dealer will tell you when you may pick up the firearm.

Simple enough?

You know I've bought a few guns last year off the net and really once you pay the FFL holders fee and shipping you've sometimes pay what you would of paid if you bought the gun localy.
I relize you can't always find what your looking for localy and have to order off the net.
I'm picking up a Pardner Pump 20ga. today after 2 pm and could of bought it cheaper off the net but once I'd pay shipping and a dealer fee I would being paying more than what I am.

find ffl or someone with a c&r in your area, talk to them. they can give you better information than anyone here

support your local dealer, buy from them. they make money because shipping cost is the same for one gun or twelve.

I bought a Win. Mod. 70 of the net about two years ago, and asked the guy if all the numbers matched. He said yes. I received the gun glanced at the numbers on the bolt, receiver and box, and they appeared to match. about a 1 1/2 years later I pulled the gun out of my safe to check and clean, I noticed a very faint number and after a closer look discovered that this wasn't the original bolt. They tried to buff the number off and stamped a new one on it.

yes youve got to take that into consideration.
many times unless it is a REALLY good deal you might as well just have a store order it.

the stores never just have the gun i want.
